Arif Magomedov vs. Karen Avetisyan, 10 rounds @ middleweight

 

Round 1

Guard-splitting jabs and big skeeball hooks to the body from Magomedov circling on the outside, bouncing on his toes. Avetisyan turns and parries with his left arm hoisted up - which, come to mention it - has a blue flag wrapped around it from three inches above to a few inches below the elbow. :blood Weird. Anyway, Magomedov is setting the pace and picking his spots on Avetisyan, darting in and scoring mostly to the body while Avetisyan turns either way to deny him clean head shots.

Round 2

Magomedov is leaning in, crossing his arms over his face, exploding with combos to the body when Avetisyan opens up with probing jabs and slapping rights around the ear. Magomedov jabs into Avetisyan's forearms to freeze them still and then quickly whips a hook around into Avetisyan's underbelly. Big hooking combo up top by Magomedov. Avetisyan counters with a hook, keeping the middle of that blue flag stretched taut. Nice exchanges as they both lean forward.

Round 3

Magomedov is whipping in underhand body shots while crabbing in rapidly. Big overhand rights by Avetisyan, shot put style to dissuade Magomedov and keep him on the outside, mostly hitting Magomedov on the neck as he leans forward and presses both gloves centered in a tight squeeze against his face. Chops at the head and body shots by Magomedov on the inside. The ref pushes them apart. Jabs by Magomedov. Both throw and land rights stepping together. Hooking exchange as they remain close, arms getting tangled.

Avetisyan is arguing with his corner about something while seated on his stool, refusing water and vigorously shaking his head, turning and spitting past the ring canvas.

 

Round 4

Magomedov is propelling forward and jabbing the chest and then starting hack-and-slash flurries to the head with his right as his rear foot drags in. Avetisyan sloughs him off with his left arm ramped from bicep to elbow and body tilted away, throwing uppercut combos when Magomedov leans in to keep up body contact. Big hooks downstairs by Magomedov, not quite getting leverage as he is left off position when Avetisyan steps back abruptly from the lean-in. Right hands traded.

10-9 Magomedov but the last couple have been closer.

40-36 Magomedov

 

Round 5

Magomedov is kicking off to his left, darting in with jabs and body shots, galloping back and resetting. Avetisyan is patiently leaning in reverse, timing Magomedov with jabs on the outside and short upper combos when Magomedov leans too far in on him. Magomedov misses a jab up past Avetisyan's neck and is countered with a 1-2. Avetisyan crosses his feet right over left moving out of the pocket and sweeps out a hook while passing. The ref warns them for holding as they both idle on the inside. They break and clasp again. Atevisyan sticks his left elbow out to keep range. Jab and uppercut from outside by Avetisyan - the jab getting in between Magomedov's gloves while he is standing upright and the uppercut finding him as he leans down afterward. Avetisyan is doing nice work in short little clusters, moving away or tying up after each successful attack.

49-46 Magomedov

 

Round 6

Magomedov is leaning in and pushing on Avetisyan with both arms. The ref is splitting them every few seconds. Hooks up top by Magomedov, missing as Avetisyan rolls down to the other side. Counter uppercuts and long hooks backing up by Avetisyan. Hook-2 by Avetisyan. Magomedov lunges up with a hookercut while leaned too far over, almost tipping off balance.

Round 7

Magomedov is dropping low and jabbing the body, feet set wider than his shoulders. Avetisyan pins his elbows together to catch the body jabs and counters with hooks while turning Magomedov. Big flurry by Magomedov leaning in, blocked. Right hand and left hook by Avetisyan, missing as Magomedov takes a big hop backwards. Avetisyan turns himself three-quarters away, backhanding out the jab. Flurry by Magomedov blocked.

Round 8

1-2-1-2 by Avetisyan. Leaping hook by Magomedov. Avetisyan backs up, picking shots off. Magomedov lands a low blow. Avetisyan goes and slumps over in a corner while recovering. The crowd overreacts thinking something advantageous to Magomedov has occurred. Time in. Hard body digs by Magomedov, coming up off the canvas as he turns into them. Avetisyan covers up and shoeshines Magomedov's face while backing out. Lunging right hand by Magomedov, missing. Leaping hook by Magomedov, blocked. Chopping overhand right by Avetisyan, ducked. Flurry by Magomedov, slipped and stepped past as Avetisyan leans in on him. Right hand to the body by Avetisyan. Magomedov dances to his right and pops a jab. Avetisyan lowers his left arm, slipping punches. Back to high guard for Avetisyan when Magomedov throws a few left hooks. Counter right by Avetisyan.
