Dmitry Chudinov vs. Patrick Nielsen RBR

Round 10

Chudinov is rifling jabs in on Nielsen, shepherding him around the ring. Mark Nelson shouts to Nielsen's corner to have glove tape at the ready as he sees it coming loose and will need to pause soon. Nielsen is given a warning for clinches for the first time all night, eliciting chuckles from the entire crowd as well as the Russian commentators. Nielsen eats a jab and throws a 1-2 at the head, missing but rubbing Chudinov's right cheek with the left cross. Another left by Nielsen is ducked as Chudinov lands another jab. Nelson calls for the glove tape and Nielsen gets a short reprieve as they fix it. Nelson makes sure they don't mess around. Time in. Nielsen tomahawks out with his right jab, sideways from his chest, feeling out the position of Chudinov's gloves with it as he backs away, circling off the ropes.

Just a difference in class. I think Chudinov would end up 10-0 if they had nine rematches, possibly with a few stoppages on some nights.

 

i'd deduct a point every round on the 2nd initiated clinch, unless you're reeling, in every fight.

Round 11

Nielsen gets off a few combos, having some isolated success with the 1-2 while circling and following with a left uppercut on the bottom of the jaw while Chudinov is leaning forward covered up in a shell. Chudinov is reaching for Nielsen with the jab, fencing with him and parrying away the purely in-the-way right jab which Nielsen is leaving inert rather than snapping. Chudinov digs a right to the body stepping in. Nielsen is running away, since Nelson won't let him clinch anymore. Nielsen hops vertically in place, sucking air, tired. Nielsen paws in a weak right jab and tries clinching. Very stern warning from Nelson. It will be a point next time. After the bell rings, Nelson follows Nielsen to his corner and yells "DON'T HOLD!"

Round 12

Chudinov is caught by a left hand from outside. Nielsen is holding out his right arm fully extended to pool-cue his opponent away. Nielsen is running laterally to his left and then diving in, head down, arms out, grabbing and quickly letting go before Nelson can say anything. Chudinov ducks and weaves, loading up a big left hook upstairs but caught in a clinch before he can bring it home. Lots of splitting required by Nelson as Nielsen is flopping in 'accidentally' with his arms tangled up with Chudinov's. Jabs traded and parried at close range. Nielsen drops a left across Chudinov's head and ties up. Nelson escorts Nielsen to his corner to fix glove tape once more. Time in. Chudinov ducks a left hand and gets spun around in a clinch, held by the neck with both of Nielsen's arms. Body shots and overhands by Chudinov breaking free of the next clinch, bashing the body with powerful wide hooks as Nielsen dances in reverse and nearly gets trapped on the ropes.

The championship rounds were Nielsen's best all night, but still pretty clear for Chudinov.

At the absolute closest, 118-110.

If you put those both as drawn rounds, 120-110.

Correct score (as in, mine ) - 120-108.

Had Nelson done his job (or even, applied the same rules consistently as in the previous match he just worked) and deducted points, even wider.

He still is what he is, a strong and gifted but limited and not very complicated give and take grinder, but he was at his best tonight and did what he could with the little Nielsen offered as far as making it crowd-pleasing. :good


Maybe a future belt holder, never a world class elite.
