Dmitry Pirog and Peter Quillin (along with Glen Johnson) in the running for Bute.

I saw that fight, and Quillin weighed in at 165lbs for a 168lbs fight, not championship-level.

 

Quillin for sure.....would like to see him vs Dirrell but Dirrell obviously wants no part of that

 

Bute and Interbox are under contract with Showtime; you might consider that after the "Dr. Show Hi" stunt, Showtime has blackballed Dirrell.

Quillin stated rather clearly he'd campaign at 160;

I'm still hoping Stieglitz screws Sauerland so that they would make for real now that counter-offer to Interbox; we already know the deal isn't made yet between SES and Sauerland.

Hopkins is with HBO;

Glen Johnson is the only one who could fight Bute at any time given and we already know he will provide for certain (unlike Dirrell)

Pirog, Golovkvin are real prospects in a division which has an undisputed champ

Johnson is a hard fight, but still slow and 42. He will lose by a fair UD ( 111-116 )
Peter Quillen is a great fighter, he needs a few small fights first. Heis impressive though. Bute by 112-117 UD.

 

Well, i cheked IBF rankings and he's rated 5th at SMW; unlike Johnson he comes after a victory; that suits better IBF; but some amount of cash would convince them to rate Glen Johnson in their top 15

 

Most probably will be Johnson.

Bernard Hopkins reigned for the longest, he's 6'1
Kelly Pavlik is 6'1
Jermain Taylor is 6'1
Dmitry Pirog is 6'1


So recent reigning champions and the most prolific ones like Bernard,Pavlik and Taylor were all 6'1. Yet Quillin is not a middleweight because he's 6'1?

You can do better than that, chump.

 

Pirog is a bad choice, not a good ticket seller and not a real 168lbs. I have not seen Kid chocolate at work since his fight with Echols and Miranda, I really hope he's much better now cuz if not, Bute will dominate him completely and everyone will say ,again, that Quillin was another no hoper, cab driver, hype etc. Cloud would be the best choice, but for a first fight at 175lbs, it would be a big order. And for Dirrell, he should get rid of the ring rust before facing someone like Bute, Bute is no AA...

 

Pirog or Quilin would be strange choices as both are seen as MW, are young and are really talented. There's no pressure for a SMW to fight these guys, but Bute's team will have to take risks at some point considering the lack of good opponents available.


My guess is Glenn Johnson. I'd pick Bute to win, but I'm not sure how he'll handle Glenn's intelligent pressure. Good fight.

 

I'm hoping for Pirog solely for the fact that this could be his last chance at a big break. Johnson has no problem landing good fights and has had a career filled with them, and Quillin now has the backing and enough of a future to land big fights.

There's not as much time or opportunity for Pirog, and he hasn't gotten that chance yet despite looking good on the platform that usually lands guys big fights.

It's not the best circumstances for Dmitry, but it's the best he's going to get. I hope he gets the call, even though I don't see him beating Bute.

 

Bute trained a lot with Johnson, if he fights him its because he knows he will win. It's not like Johnson will bring anything new to the fight.

Watched last Pirog fight, terrible.

Should fight Pascal, Cloud or Shumenov if he cannot fight a top 5 SM.

 

all the crap like magee and brinkley and the guy bika knocked out in 1....bute fans say "who else is there, everyone else in super 6?" 4 different belt holders at light heavyweight and bute fans that he shouldnt have to go up 7 pounds to make good fights whike he waits...so apparently light heavies he has no interst in but middleweights he does,...or 42 year old ex sparring partners.....
