He was a good fighter................

 

He was training in the Russian mountains getting ready to fight GGG.

 

Pirog was fun to watch and he had skills but lets not carried away here. Jacobs was just a rookie when they fought and he was at his prime.

It was interesting time though. N'dam, Jacobs, Golovkin and Quillin all top prospects and we were debating who would deliver most. In esb, money was on Golovkin and Jacobs - that went pretty good.

 

Btw. Can u point out the last time when MW division top 10 was as good as it is today? It's full of talent, skills, power and different styles; Golovkin, Canelo, Jacobs, Lemieux, Saunders, Monroe jr., Eubank jr., Charlo, Lee, Murata, N'Dam, Serevyanchenko, Korobov,..

 

I didn't know Jacobs had cancer of the chin.

in 13 days we get to see Golovkin vs Canelo , which could be a short fight btw AND Saunders vs Monroe which also will probably be a good scrap

 

He passed the physical. If he had cancer at that time, his blood tests would've been way off.

 

He was diagnosed 8 months later, and they said if they had not caught it, he wouldn't have made it through the weekend.

 

Serious??? I didn't think cancer worked that fast??

 

it doesn't. if you aren't making it through the weekend if they don't find it, you aren't making it through the weekend if they do. that is just a not very bright guy with an agenda, spewing bs to promote his agenda.

During that time in Iraq, he was hospitalized for what he thought was food poisoning. Once back home in New York City Daniel began to lose the ability to walk, it was two weeks later and he was due to be back in training Los Angeles when he completely went paralyzed, only able to crawl. After extensive testing, the doctors found a tumor on Daniel’s spine that was beginning to wrap around his rib cage. In May 2011, Daniel was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a life-threatening form of bone cancer, Doctors say that Daniel was only hours away from being dead due to the rapid growth of the tumor.

About eight months later, after returning with a group of boxers from a USO tour of Iraq, Jacobs noticed a problem with his legs. Within weeks, he needed a cane to walk. Doctors told him it was a pinched nerve and medicated him for that. But it progressively got worse. Soon, he was on crutches, and before long, he was partially paralyzed and using a wheelchair.

In May 2011, Jacobs was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive cancer in the form of a tumor "the size of a handball" wrapped around his spine. The tumor damaged his nerves and caused paralysis in his legs.

Read somewhere else on the inernet that Pirog damaged his back hitting large tires with a sledge hammer.
Would have been an interesting fight as both GGG and Pirog used similar tricks esp. shifting

Suspect what Jacobs learnt from Pirog helped him go the distance with GGG.
The trick to beating GGG is confusing him more than he confuses you and then catching him. I doubt Canelo has the footwork to achieve this but you never know.
