atsch Do you guys SERIOUSLY think this is anything more than a parody twitter account? https://twitter.com/dmitrypirog?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author Look at these tweets: dmitry pirog ‏@dmitrypirog Oct 24 Watching everyone compete makes me hungrier everyday to return 6 retweets 8 likes dmitry pirog ‏@dmitrypirog 18 Sep 2012 My return will be soon! -------------- There you have it guys. It's an English speaking guy just writing rubbish. You would at least expect Pirog to have more than 200 followers and that he would be writing in Russian.
Wow...thanks for ruining Christmas for all of us.....even Russian Christmas on 7 January is totally ruined. :nono
That is his only claim to glory. Oddly enough that fight made him some kinda monster(at least on ESB) while Jacobs is viewed as a joke because of that loss. Oh boxing
Hopefully his back is fully healthy and healed. He is older now, but doesn't have the wear and tear. Be interesting to see if he can put in a hard camp without reinjuring that back.
Pirog had some upside. He beat Jacobs in his 18 fight if I recall. Jacobs in hindsight is a nice notch on his belt.
Gannicus, I think you're right. Pirog has a page on the most popular Russian social network, vk.com, and he has written nothing there about a comeback. Pirog probably doesn't even know what Twitter is. Almost nobody in Russia uses that site.
This is going to disappoint people… Not only does Pirog not box anymore - he doesn’t even talk about boxing anymore. Every few months I do an “investigation” on Pirog, because I used to think he could beat GGG and suddenly the fight was cancelled due to a back injury to Pirog. But the info I find just saddens me every time. When I type “Dmitry Pirog 2015” in Russian on a Russian search engine, lots of articles pop up, and all of them regard his activities as a promotor of fitness and healthy lifestyle for teens in Russia. So he has a new job now (but luckily it’s a job that keeps him from getting out of shape). If you look up Dmitry Pirog (Дмитрий Пирог on the most popular Russian-language boxing website, Allboxing.ru, you get a chronological list of all the articles that mention him: http://allboxing.ru/category/д...0;й пирог The site obviously follows Pirog closely, as there is one article that just talks about his wedding in July 2015. Unfortunately, the two most recent articles about his actual boxing are from 2014. In these interviews, he mentions that some doctors say he’ll make a comeback, but others say he’ll never fight again. He says he remains optimistic and that he very much wants to continue his career, and that he would do so only for Golovkin. If you find articles from 2015 in which Pirog says those things, they’re just rehash articles. There is nothing from 2015 on Pirog’s boxing career. In the forums at Allboxing.ru, almost everyone talks about Pirog as a former fighter, and just wish him good health. And honestly, Rocky Marciano retired at the same age because of back problems, and when he tried to make a comeback, he couldn’t do it. These fighters who rely on a flexible back and pelvic movement rarely fight past their early thirties, and when they do they are unable to fight like they did in their youth. (Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, Mike Tyson, and Joe Frazier come to mind.) Life sucks for boxing fans. But let’s hope Eubank gives GGG a good fight…
There is nothing in the second video about his return to the ring. Everything sounds like he has never left. At 3:40 he is talking about some lost elections. In the first video, he says that if God lets him come back, then he fill fight Golovkin after 1-2 warmup fights.
A few years ago, I was convinced that GGG-Pirog was one of the best fights that could be made in any weight class. A real shame that his career looks to be over.
:huh That's what it came up with when I put it through Google Video Translate. And the poster From.Russia who is from Russia and therefore speaks fluent Russian didn't dispute that was what he said and neither did Beatle who is from or at least currently resides in Moscow (which is the capital of Russia) and also speaks fluent Russian. :think
I've yet to hear a compelling reason that definitely can't be his Twitter account. He does speak English (or was learning it, roughly around his U.S. debut) and none of his tweets require some lifelong mastery of the language to have constructed. Or he could have someone that helps but the content is still from him.
