    Why is Nobuhiro Ishida getting a championship fight after losing to Paul Williams? Was beating James Kirkland really that big of a deal?

    Because it's better for Pirog to fight somebody who has been in some good fights and has at least some popularity than a complete nobody/uknown fighter.

    OK, but Ishida? This is a championship fight.
    Why not Williams he fits the bill of "has been in some good fights and has at least some popularity than a complete nobody/uknown fighter." He also won his last 2 fights.

    I doubt Williams would be willing to fight Pirog, Pirog in general has had lots of trouble making fights with decent opponents (in fact pretty much every top MW) and even this is a step up for Pirog which is good, I can't complain.
