All of this makes me wonder what will come of the journeyman fighters that fight every couple weeks for a whole 10-15 year career.

The American Medical Association has been "screaming bloody murder" for the last 50 years. They have been at the forefront of the anti-boxing campaign for as long as I can remember. It would appear that nobody is listening.

I don't keep track of who or how many boxers are getting killed or maimed in the ring. Maybe I should but I don't. Here is an interesting article which will give you a brief overview of the subject. Apparenly the anti-boxing lobby is all over the world.

    Hmmmm....what happened?

He was still chasing young women ten years ago! Do you remember his TV interview with Mike Tyson? LaMotta was making jokes about Tyson's squeaky voice.

No doubt professional boxing is an unhealthy thing, but nearly all of my grandparents suffer from dementia as well, and they've never laced up a glove.

Its rather difficult to say. There are old time fighters that had brutal wars, Lamotta being a perfect example, and they are fresh as cut grass.

There are other fighters though, the Quarry brothers, Ali, Robinson, where it is very obvious that the punishment they took had an adverse effect on them.

I hope you all read this. I think the question to ask is not

    Does boxing cause dementia?

    But rather

Does boxing increase your chances of dementia

The difference is that the misconception that "well he was a boxer, and he had brain damage and thats why he has dementia now"

Thats not true. Obviously being punched in the face thousands of times can have an adverse effect, but some people are none the worse for it.

Rather, its like smoking. It makes you more Likely to get lung cancer, but there is no proven link that it directly causes it

For practical matters however, it is safe to say that a boxing career will put you at a greater risk for neurological decay as you age.

Yeah, citing another specific individual sure does speak to the commonality of the phenomenon. :!:
