Do all ultra-unorthodox fighters like Hamed and Gamboa get punished sooner or later?

No disrespect, I am/was a huge fan of Gamboa and Hamed. And of course taking into account that everyone can get knocked-out, but still.

Judging by the fact they keep their hands so low and eventually might get clipped?

Hamed had amazing performances but was knocked down many times.
Gamboa also keeps his hands very low.

Are there other examples of guys who were/are as unorthodox as Hamed/Gamboa and how their careers developed/ended?

    Peace

I don't care all I know is that Ultra Unorthodox fighters are ****ing amazing attractions for the sport of boxing and I could care less about their "flaws" because that is what makes them interesting to watch. If you can't enjoy what these guys get away with in the ring with their style than you're all just a bunch of stiffs.

I don't think it is fair to say they get punished sooner or later because they are unorthodox, all fighters get punished sooner or later especially if they fight the best in the world as long as Hamed did. And in Hamed and Gamboa's case, part of what makes them great is their unorthodox style that makes them hard to fight. I mean, who can you spar with to prepare you for a Hamed or Gamboa?

What makes these guys great, is not only are they unorthodox and they get away with **** that most fighters could only dream of getting away with, but they take on all opposition and they aren't scared of anyone. You all can hate Gamboa all ya want because he is "hyped" which is a sorry and weak excuse to not like a fighter, but the man has balls, and he is willing to get in there with anyone in the world right now. When a man can fight for 12 rounds with his hands down, and STILL win just about EVERY round, Hes got ****ing talent.

Yes, but 99% of fighters get punished sooner or later, anyways.

What guys like Hamed and Gamboa need (and needed) to be aware of is that if they try to change now to fix those flaws, they could very well be taking away a big part of their advantages.

The only real difference to me is that those guys tend to not age well as fighters. Just look at the career progressions of Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins as evidence.

It's difficult to remain unorthodox after your legs and reflexes go, but you can be technically sound for many years.

But as pointed out, it's nearly impossible to prepare for fighters like that, and you can't argue against the success of guys like Jones and Calzaghe.

That crazy unorthodox style is the epitome of a double-edged sword -- it's their greatest strength and simultaneously their greatest weakness.

Even Ali eventually met a roadblock to his style in the form of getting knocked down by people like Cooper and Frazier. Hell, he should never even have stood up from that left hook Frazier shot -- to this day I'm amazed that he managed to do so. Even the guy in my avatar couldn't always get away with keeping his hands low.

To be honest, though...everyone is punished sooner or later at a high level, regardless of if they box unorthodox or orthodox. The key is to come back harder and stronger, and even more importantly, to use intelligence to fill in for natural disadvantages. It's a combination of sheer will/desire and brains. Styles are only part of the whole picture.

He falls under the "later" category, as will Gamboa likely at some point down the line(no time soon), though I feel his chin is more than solid as is, as it is going to be tested a lot more than Jones's was.

It amazes me how someone talks up Abner ****ing Mares and then talks Gamboa down. Just astonishing.

Totally agree. Hands down style relies almost entirely on footwork and reflex for defence. When those two things start to slide you are in trouble.
