Well in professional boxing you fight for 12x 3 minute rounds, top amateurs are either 3x3 or 4x2. So they are very different, as long as a boxers is fit enough to throw fast punches for 8 minutes they can succeed where as few have the stamina to do it over 36. If Khan-Maidana was an amateur bout it would have seemed a domination after 3 rds.

I was also told by my coach who occaisionally works with the England team that he was told international boxers should only throw 3 full on punches a round, don't ask me why.

I used to put about 60% power in to my punches, because I'm trying to score points and keep myself safe, not go to war.

Oh sorry re-read the post you were quoting me on. It'll be more similar. There will still be the vests though.

9 Amatuer bouts buddy, (8-1) got to County trials, and broke my hand on the other guys hip, then got battered  Now I just train kids.

Good luck! The most important thing is to remember to breathe :good (It sounds silly but people get infront of a crowd and forget!)

Judges don’t need to push buttons simultaneously anymore. Also judges are suppose to give points from body punching but they rarely give enough points for it

The AIBA is going to be changing their system for fights under their system to help facilitate amateurs going pro but that's for the Open division. It's part of their attempt to run a pro organization that lets the fighters registered and fighting with them to fight in the Olympics since that's also part of their area. It's been sort of vague though so some people are under the impression that ALL amateur boxing is going to go sans headgear.

Amateur boxers are required to throw 50 to 100 punches per round. The scoring is not based upon the harder punches landed but instead upon the number of legal punches landed. Throwing 50 to 100 punches in a one minute round is no easy feat. As a boxer ages and matures the rounds go from 1 minute long to 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. This means a boxer has more time to throw their punches so they pace themselves differently. In pro boxing it is not only the number of punches landed but the hardness of the punches and aggressiveness of the boxer that factor into the scoring. Amateur boxers routinely do 1 minute drills of nonstop punching just to get use to the pace.

Actualy nowadays scoring is supposed to be from hard clean shots.
Also in adults its three minute rounds not two
