Can't help but feel that American fighters get more respect (reverance is a better description actually) than fighters from other parts of the world, is this a feeling that anyone else has?
Not trying to turn this into a bashing thread, but it seems that American fighters get praised for a record that would be bashed if they were from elsewhere, particularly europe.

    thoughts?

You may be surprised to learn that Americans get more respect in America while Europeans get more respect in Europe.

This is true but, by God, they deserve it.

alot of it is down to HBO if you ask me, they tend to back homegrown fighters the most and hype them the most. there are of course exceptions but this is generally the case.

I dont have anything against european fighters...but they will always have to prove themselves by coming to america and and compete wit our fighters to be considered a great

I think its more due to the media that american fighters get more attention or "respect" from american fans than european fighters do! They simply dont know much about the euro-boxers unless they fight a "big name" in the states!
I do understand that some finds it enoying if europeans keeps praising a fighter they never really heard about! But i dont like when people uses words like "euro-bums or "euro-level fighters! Just because americans dont know much about them, doesn`t make bad fighters! Respect should go both ways.. and i also believe it does for most true boxing fans

Maybe but I think this is due to the fact that the majority of top fighters fought/fight out of the US, If they were more willing to travel to europe and prove themselves over here against top euro fighters this could also work.
But in most cases they are reluctant to do this even though boxing is huge over here with stadiums ready to be sold out for big fights and plenty of money to be made.
I see no reason why this shouldnt happen

That's because it's a well know fact that most of the greatest champions have been and continue to be from the American Hemesphere.

The level of competition is better especially at the lower levels of the sport in america. FNF in america has higher calibre fighters than domestic shows here in the UK.
