Part of that is how powerful he is with short shots though. Someone smaller, less powerful would need to rear up to do anything significant. Brock is so strong, he can have body to body contact and still hammer punch your lights out in seconds, only needs a few inches of room to rear up and slam a hammer fist or elbow down, and he does it consecutively and quickly.. It looks every bit as dangerous and difficult to defend as Overeem's side mount knees to the head. Strength or not, it's a technique that needs to be taken into account and seems pretty unique to Lesnar. That he is looking for subs as well just makes him that more dangerous, and that more many things to look out for. Cain is planning to be on his back for some time it seems. I'm guessing, he at least thinks he knows a way to nullify Brocks GnP. I'm more in the belief that its smarter to stuff shots, because those take the most energy out of a wrestler. If he can stuff a couple and force the action standing, he can hurt Lesnar's tank, or he can make Lesnar spend a bit of his load and catch him while he's recovering from a failed shot, with a shot of his own.. Nothing makes me believe Brock has a legit defense from his back, at least yet other than his ability to get back to his feet if his opponent doesn't establish control. Carwin was happy to just try to drop some shots on Lesnar without trying to get any sort of body control on him, which was a big mistake. Basic strategy I would give to Cain. Stuff a shot, do what you can to tag him in the head so he gets moving backwards, so he is not in position to shoot. Once he starts covering up, shoot yourself, take him to the ground and make him waste his tank. Look for those weaknesses that are probably there, bust his face with short elbows and shots, and make him squirm, don't give him a chance to breathe or gather himself.
ofcourse i do. hes a badass gnper. did you see that carwin submission? **** Lesnar impressed me that fight.
Lesnars athletic ability and size doesn't mask the fact that he has good ground ability on top. I was really impressed with the way he dominated Mir there, and the aforementioned Carwin choke was very well executed for a man of that size IMO his size adds to why he's impressed me as of late. His stand-up isn't great, but with his sheer size if e does clip someone he'll at least cause some damage. I think his gameplan will be to take Cain down, nullify him on his back and pound his way to a stoppage. His sheer strength should make it harder for Cain to get much locked in. Brock has improved big time in his last few fights IMO. If Cain can consistently stuff Brocks takedowns then Brock is ****ed. He'll have only a punchers chance, dangerous for someone as sloppy and an arm puncher against some who is far more well-rounded standing up. Another intriguing fight, I take my hat off to the UFC. Shields Vs Kampmann is interesting too IMO, a safe enough but still competitive stopgap to the fight that needs to happen. Shields will submit the Dane in the second IMO.
wrestling wise i respect brock, after his last fight i respected his offensive bjj but think his defensive bjj sucks. he knows the basics of striking but lacks so much experience. i would say grappling is organic because it easier to concentrate on the task at hand and adapt. striking is not natural. instinctively you want to pull your head back, back pedal etc striking arts teach you to do the exact opposite of that and you can't buy the experience necessary to be good at it. even in sparring, you can spar full speed ahead every time in grappling but that isn't the case with striking. if i was brock, i would concentrate mainly on my boxing and i think he said that on the jim rome show.
I agree. Martin is a really dangerous fight. He's not super talented but he is a good all rounder, who comes in shape and comes to fight. His striking is good and he knows what he is doing on the ground. Kamps could ruin the party. If Shields wins then he does deserve a title shot next.
Technically, No. Yes, he is a good wrestler. Everyone can see that. Being a great wrestler in the sport of wrestling does not mean you are a great wrestler in mma. It's a little different with punches and knees coming at your head... That said, he is a good wrestler in mma though. But far from unstoppable. Everywhere else, he hasn't really shown any great technical expertise. Some solid basics, and i will say that every fight he has improved, but he is far from technically great. He tends to get by from his physical prowess, and there is nothing wrong with that. To rate someone pound for pound, or as a technical fighter, i do this: I take the person, put them in an average body, give there oppenant identical same body, and then consider who will win. Take away brocks body and he is not a good fighter. He relys on it, but why the hell shouldn't he?
he has good wrestling ability. as far as fighters go though I wouldnt say he is a shining example of technical brilliance, much like Primo Carnera was not technically brilliant but he was the champ for a time.....
what you say is completely true. I bolded that portion because it in particular sums up brock's style, and it shouldn't be held against him. that triangle choke was evidence of his martial arts development it is slow IMO, but he is coming along.
His ability to defend takedowns will show us just how good Shields is IMO. I agree, if he wins GSP should be next, although I wouldn't moan at a Shields-Fitch final eliminator either :yep
Agreed. Shields might not have great stand up but if he has the ability to take everyone down and put them in his game then that is a serious threat. Shields has as good as a run as you can have outside of the UFC - Okami, Condit, Pyle, Daley, Lawler, Miller and Henderson. Really quite impressive. I enjoy watching Kamps and if Kamps stuffs Shields grappling then he should be in trouble. Alternatively its a great chance for Kamps to show his grappling is better than we thought. Ultimately at 170, Kamps only lost out to a huge shot from Daley. Kamps mixed with Volkmann's wrestling, Condits JJ and Thiago's JJ. Guys have had a chance to put some serious grappling on him. Lets not forget that Kamps rolls with guys like Pyle who aren't too shabby themselves.
Exactly. I really wanna see what effect Shields' takedown attempts and ground game will have on Kampmann, if he exerts his ability on him with little bother than I will be seriously hyped for GSP Vs Shields (I think GSP will stop Koscheck over five personally) as Martin is a tough test for his first night in the UFC. But Fitch Vs Shields is super-intriguing too. I'm rooting for Shields tonight, for the reason that he could be involved in some intriguing super fights. Then again, failure to win tonight would mean he isn't quite ready yet, I think he's in his prime though, some called the Hendo clinic 'boring', I found it intelligent, especially after the rough early going. Shields adaptibility, intelligence and ability to implement his will on his opponent, will make up for the disparity in stand-up between the two tonight, with Kampa clearly has the big edge in. Do they show all the prelims on ESPN in UK? I've only watched the main card before (only just got ESPN myself) and am eager to see whether the Korean KO Artist is legit or just another Asian hype job
Brock's stand up is garbage, his take down consists of charging head down like and out of control bull.................this would be very dangerous against someone like Overeem, one knee to the temple and Brock would crumble. Brock's ground game is very limited and was lucky Carwin had that all body cramp, most of Brock's ground game consists of GnP. Brock has been fighting so so fighters or unproven fighters, to be regarded as the best he should really be fighting the best in Strikeforce, these proven Strikeforce fighters are well rounded and include Fedor, Overeem and Josh Barnett.
To be fair anyone would fold to an Overeem knee, but then again he did turn and run from that feather fisted Shane Carwin, Overeem would never do that, especially against Sergei Kharitonov. But since his take down defence is so legendary I think Brock would slip and break his neck on his own puddle of **** he'd be so scared. I mean, Overeem NEVER gets pounded out while on his back does he? A GNP specialist would have no chance. So let's just dismiss it out of hand because he fights in the UFC And Josh Barnett got pounded out on his back by that known GNP'er Cro Cop, Brock again would have no chance would he? And it's not like Fedor wasnt owning Marc Coleman until Coleman ran out of gas is it. He was totally in controll of that fight from the opening bell. And he didnt get dropped on his head by Randleman, he was just jumping in the air with his super human abilities to set up the sub. And I loved the way he scoffed at that punch bu Fujita by doing the chicken dance. So lets all be adults here and totally dismiss other peoples opinions and UFC fighters abilities is it? And if someone dares to come up with a logical arguement to the contray, well they are just Zuffa Zombies!
Show me the oh so technical striking of Brock and the oh so slick submisison skills. Show me his all round ability..............oh thats right. We are talking about more recent times here, Overeem didnt run from away from a proper striker in Badr Hari whereas Lesnar ran away from a hyped up striker in Carwin. Barnett would sub Lesnar in the first round going by their skills. Fedor v Coleman, Coleman is a FAR BETTER wrestler than Brock in the first place. Coleman is a top level international and Olympic level athlete whereas Brock is simply a lowly college level wrestler.......we all know how that fight ended for Coleman and how quickly Fedor did it. Imagine how easily Brock would have been owned by Fedor. Fedor v Fujita, a hard temple hit by Fujita had Fedor doing the chicken dance. Fedor however still advanced and too the fight to Fujita.......A tap on the shoulders by Fujita would've had Brock cowering away and doing the turtle shell impersonation. Lets be adults here and watch how each fighter fights.......and not be fooled by these idiotic Zuffa propaganda that is aimed at simple minded Zuffa Zombies.
