Don't get me wrong, Mosley fought a great fight and I scored the fight a draw 114-114. When I refer to him showing his age, I'm refering to him being hesitant at times to let his hands go. When Cotto started going backwards Mosley would chase him to the ropes, put his left hand out as a range-finder, and then he would either wait to long and Cotto would get off the ropes or Cotto would hit him before he decided to throw the right hand. I've heard fighters talk about when getting older you throw less combinations and when you see the openings, you just don't capitalize on them like you used to when you were younger. Mosley just seemed unsure at times whether to unload or not and he would either get hit while trying to decide or Cotto would be gone by the time he decided what to do. What do you think? Give me your expert opinions. :good
I think Mosley was surprised at Cotto's fast jab and how strong it was. He made adjustments, but I think he relied too much in his strategy to try and land that looping right hand around Cotto's guard. That is the problem when you prepare for a fighter looking at the video only, you make plans according to those dimensions ignoring that the other fighter might have a fight plan of their own. Not everyone is Vargas or Mayorga.
Yes he did show his age. Look at how he was breathing in the 3rd round. Also his reflexes are not what they use to be. he saw opening & mistakes that he could not make cotto pay for.
Shane has been showing his age for a while now. Even in the Vargas and Collazo fights, he was showing it. But he remains a world-caliber opponent and an easy sort of guy to cheer on.
