You don't extend unwritten rules like "kiss and make up" when somebody is INTENTIONALLY fouling you. Sportsmanship gets thrown out the window after that. It's personal from then on.

If you don't think a slew of other boxers would have responded the same way, or responded with their own ILLEGAL tactics, then there is nothing to talk to you about. That is clearly not the case and boxing history will show that. Floyd responded in LEGAL fashion after the fight had resumed.

Opportunistic would be the best description of the knock out. There was nothing cheap about it.

I'm with you about the unwritten rule. As a huge baseball fan, I see them all the time.

However, written rules trump unwritten rules and Ortiz forgot rule #1: Protect yourself at all time.

I can't stand Mayweather, but come on. Did Ortiz actually expect May to act like a gentleman? You can't treat a guy like Mayweather the same way you treat a respectable human being. Always expect the worst; specially in a fight.

What you're spouting is nothing but a bunch of idealistic, howdy dudey bull****. It's not reality. I would always love to take the high road, but that's not possible. You get pissed and act accordingly. Ortiz hit Mayweather with 3 intentional head butts. They were meant to do some serious damage. If you want to be Mr turn the ther cheek, that's your right . However, your little moral crusade is empty and shallow. If you were really about doing the right thing, you would be making a thread about Ortiz. Instead of blasting the guy tried to end the fight with a sting of illegal tactics, you attack the guy who retaliated with a perfectly legal tactic.

Mrtony come the hell on man. there can be unwritten rules, but this should never be no reason to not protect yourself. some people dont live by those unwritten rules as they dont have respect for the opponents in the rings. You call it what you will -- Ortiz was way too apologetic. Floyd didn't hug Ortiz, he tapped Ortiz glove away and it looked like he said forget about it... he just wanted to continue. Ortiz tried to hug and kiss him, Floyd had his arms up like he was defending himself. I think the whole situation was messed up.

And get that two wrongs dont make a right stuff outta here. time was in and it was time to fight. floyd has done this before, if you dont think it is cool, it really doesnt change the fact that it was legal and he KO'd ortiz. Ortiz got dirty and Floyd gave him no respect. I not going to knock him for not wanting to cuddle ortiz.

If Gayweather took the higher ground instead, would you respect him less or more than now?

I am sure it would not matter to you. You have blinders put on.

there are boxers who practice good sportsmanship. it's not a fantasy world

what is it with you guys that you always have to be so defensive. always defending and twisting. look, ortiz did an illegal move. what makes it worse is how he weakly acted afterwards. he's a scumbag. but floyd took a sneaky cheap shot in too.

Floyd's so-called victory was achieved through subterfuge and chicanery, rather on actual boxing prowess. I give him credit for winning the rounds he did, but none for the KO and none for the win. He managed to win the fight in such a way as to add nothing to his legacy, and in the process he lost more fans and showed all the world what a petty, disgusting piece of **** he is. He then proceeded to take a tongue lashing from an 80 year old dipsomaniac. As a Floyd-hater, this is probably the second best thing that could have happened.

Getting "pissed and acting accordingly" is NOT accepting your opponent's hug - hugging back, then retaliating! Like I already said, if Floyd would have brushed off Ortiz's apology like he did to Mosley, then I wouldn't have much of a problem with what he did. I don't like how sneaky he was with the shots. That was some cheap ****!
