Bob Arum keeps talking about investors, but what investment is actually needed? Promotion - well okay not a massive amount of money. Las Vegas will actually pay them money to use their site so it's not needed there The only significant investment that could be needed is for guaranteed fight purses. Floyd doesn't really work on guaranteed fight purse, he basically guarantees his own purse but he's takes a risk so he can get as much of the PPV money as possible. So if he gets 50% of the PPV money he keeps it all and pays his promoters/manager set fees Bob Arum in my view is not offering (presuing he is actually at the negotiating table) 50-50 of the PPV revenue, he's offering 40-50million take it or leave it. What he is looking for in my view is to keep all the PPV money after he's cut Manny and Floyd 50million cheques
So, the money that goes to Manny and Floyd, will be from the investors? So that's approximately $100 million those investors have given away. But will there be enough in the PPV money (and maybe gates) - that Arum gets to keep - for him to give the investors a return on their £100 million investment, and keep a healthy chunk for himself?
there is too much assumptions in your post TS. first we don't know how much floyd invests in a fight. it was mentioned that he pays for his opponents directly (ortiz) but it's doable since ortiz only got around $2M. how can floyd pay pacquiao or his own purse when they would be guaranteed at least $50M each? big time investors would raise their guaranteed purse up to proportions that no one can imagine. of course it is subject to discussion on what do these investors want. do they want the fight to ahppen in their state or country, do they want a share of the gate or PPV, etc.... related article about how much both can potentially earn with these investors who are willing to put money. about $75M each... And people laughed when mayweather said he could make a 100 million from this fight. He not far off is he.atsch Mayweather has always been a step ahead of the game. At one time this fight was suggested that these fighters could make 50 million when it all said and done, which is a crazy sum, now we hearing sums of 75 million each.:yikes And if the fight is close we would get a rematch. With even more money.
3million@USD50-70 would probably be 174 million (using 58 as average) 4million@USD50-70 would be 232million (using 58 as average) HBO usually take 50% but for a fight of this magnitude I do wonder if they've got them down on that playing off other PPV Then there's the world rights Site fee - 20million Ticket sales Sponsors
If someone really does want to pay 100million to have it in their country you have a point. But would anyone really put up 100million just to have the fight there? I'm unconvinced
You mean if pac keeps losing he gets zero We would be at a 100 million by now if the investors didn't see pac lose to marquez.
I think it will do 3, the record is FMJ-DLH at 2.4 - this fight is more anticipated. At the time Floyd's largest PPV was 350k, Oscars was 1.4, Floyd's now done 1.4 without Oscar (I think). He's been put in with someone who's also regularly done more than 1.1. Just bringing the 2 stars should put it over the Oscar fight. Then there's the fact it's the most anticipated fight since I'm not sure when and the PPV market has grown since then too
I don't agree the fact the floyd and pac are doing similar numbers, to me actually suggests that the ppv audience are one of the same, the same people paying to watch a mayweather fight are the same people paying to watch a pacquiao fight, both men like it or not are joined at the hip, of course you have those who will only be willing to pay to watch a match involving them when the two actually fight so I would say that would push the buys up to 1.7 million −2.0 mil.
jerry jones was willing to put a $25M site fee for pacquiao-mayweather before and he is just one person. i'm sure a couple more investors is willing to put a big sum for this fight.
