It's getting obvious that boxer punchers are becoming dominant in the sport today. Look at the likes of GGG, Kovalev, Stevenson, Walters, Canelo etc. The era of slick boxers has gone. They can't compete no more.

I made this case a few years ago stating that boxer punchers would more than likely begin to dominate the sport. Even in the purist and brawler strong holds (blacks, Mexican respectively) we are starting to see a change. I called this long before it started to happen because I could not see how it could not happen. Boxer punchers combine excitement along with the strategy, skills, technique etc. to consistently give them a chance to beat everyone. I hope we continue on this route because when the majority of boxing becomes dominated by boxer puncher then the majority of fights will be competitive and exciting.

The best will always be someone who is very slick but all of the contenders will be boxer punchers. Much more difficult to be slick than it is to bang. A boxer is slick either because they are extremely talented or they are trying to avoid being hit because of chin weakness, but boxer punchers naturally fight that way and they wouldn't fight like that if they had a weakness on the chin.

right now it's the defensive/backfoot/spoiling type that's ruling the sport, but it seems that's about to change.

Besides PPV, it's the succes of the US housestyle that turned the casuals away from boxing, who like the brawler/come forward/puncher type much more.

No they don't but they rule the TV dates and exposure, as they rightfully should. Golovkin deserves all the praise he gets and more.. 4 fights a year and always goes for KO even when it's dangerous (e.g vs Stevens).
