The real crazy thing is that he weighed 145 against Leonard in their first fight with a same day weigh-in.
So I guess the general consensus is that boxers are actually about an inch shorter than there listed height?
It is crazy and to be able to box for 15 rounds back then being that big and same day weigh ins and posses legit one punch ko power amazing. Amazing he carried that power up to lhw, great great fighter
It has been a common practice since the 1800s, for fighters heights to be exaggerated. I get the idea that it has generally been the promoters doing it, more than the fighters themselves. In the first decade of the 20th century, there were no formal weigh ins at heavyweight. A fighter simply declared their weight, and it was accepted without question, on the grounds that there was no weight limit. this sometimes resulted in fighters overstating their weight to intimidate opponents, and understating it to make them complacent.
My homeboy who is 5'6 said his 5'3 girlfriend took a pic with Pacroid and she was only like a half inch shorter.
One thing to consider, is that a person's height can change by an inch or more, over the course of a day. It can also be temporarily reduced by certain sports, such as running.
I am a large human being and have been lucky enough to stand next to a lot of famous athletes. In general, I would subtract 4 inches for WWE wrestlers, 2 inches for boxers, an inch for NBA, and about 2 inches for NFL. The first time you ever see a lighter weight fighter in person will absolutely blow your mind. They are literally hobbits. The only 3 fighters I have been around that surprised me by their large size were Lennox, Wlad, and Deontay. Though all 3 have incorrectly listed heights, all 3 are massive human beings. I personally was surpised how little Stiverne and Haye were and the first time you ever see Tyson is person will immediately tell you why he had no chance against other ATGs.
Tyson is a solid 5'10 barefoot Pac is 5'5 1/2 Floyd is 5'7 ODLH is 5'9 or 5'9 1/2 calzaghe might be one of the few boxers underlisted, looks more like 6'0 or 6'1 than 5'11 canelo is 5'7 1/2 was listed at 5'9 for a long time khan was listed at 5'10 for a long time is 5'8 1/2 To me height isn't that big of an issue in boxing at least within reason, reach is much more important. A couple of inches taller means **** all in the ring.
