If you were watching with others, did they comment on the size difference between the two (i.e. how Chavez looked like a cruiserweight compared to Maravilla). Just curious what casuals' perception of this was.

the reason i'm asking is because i hope others would realize that Maravilla took on someone a lot bigger than him and still was very dominant!

Made my girl watch it yesterday morning and she said 'how come that ones fatter' and gestured to Chavez (and this was after she had gotten things confused and thought I said that Martinez was the heavier of the two)

    So maybe, yeah.

Also, while Chavez is a lot bigger the skill gap is huge, full credit to Martinez, but if that was someone with an above average skillset (which Chavez definitely does not possess) then it may have been very different. I expected that Martinez would be dominant.

Even casuals have eyes. The difference between the two was massive. Not just height but overall thickness of his torso, arms etc. If I had to guess I'd say the difference between the two after re-hydrating must have been a stone.

Chavez was a cruiserweight in this fight

Middleweights usually gain 8-10 lbs, Sergio looked to be about 170 on fight night

Chavez on the other hand looked about 185 lbs. thats a total of 25 lbs! Sergio said that Junior refused drug testing for the fight after having been caught using an illegal substance in his fight against Troy Rowland in 2009 and refused to be weighed on the night

The casuals I have talked too (mainly Mexicans who will support any Mexican fighter no matter what) only mentioned Martinez style. They said that Martinez didn't want to trade and the time he did he was KD. I don't make them understand the size difference and the styles of fighting of each fighter. But oh well, that is why they are casual fans

    Chavez looked like a MW.

It is just that Sergio is not and has never been a MW.

ya people expect him to just trade shots with Chavez, but that would be dumb since Chavez is the bigger and stronger of the two.

Chavez is just a punching bag. Just cos you got Size don't make you a good fighter.

If Chavez is that big he must have been drained at 160

I heard Chazez was 220 plus come fight night. He actually chopped of his **** and surgically removed the bones from his arms at the weigh in just to make weight.

    True Story.

This has to be how he does it.

And somehow, he still manages to pull hoes and win fights.

But with those rubber arms, he's gonna have to make sure he dont fight no more slick speedy un orthodox fighters again.:think

no silly. He surgically gets the bones replanted after the weigh in, so he fights with his arms intact.

I think in the Martinez vs Chavez fight the weight difference was easy to see.
