I know every1 likes a fighter that just goes in the ring and brawls it out when he's in the ring but do we over rate them? Do we under rate fighters that are not brawlers? I'll give you an example. Everybody thinks that Michael Katsidis is a really good fighter and they talking him fighting the likes of Juan Diaz but I don't know if he really that good. I'm not trying to hate on him and I like to watch him fight but I think we over rate him because of his style. I also think we under rate fighters that boxes their oppents. I think we under rate a fighter like Paulie Malignaggi because of his fighting style. People under rate Paulie just because he's a boxer with no power. Before Paulie lost to Cotto he beat every fighter he fought without losing a round. I know the brawling style is more fun to watch but I think we over rate fighter who have that style.

Yes, Kats is one of the most overrated fighter in the game today, and Juan would tko his pasty ass on cuts, or just the ref stopping the fight after a brutal combo, one of the two.. I dont see Kats going out cold though.

I think that they do. Katsidis to an extent, although I don't really think anyone actually believes he is as good as Diaz. Pavlik definitely, same with Lacy before him.

well, juan diaz can also be considered as a brawler, right? i don't think kats quits on the stool though like freitas and julio diaz. there is absolutely no quit on this guy. if there is any stoppage, it will be due to cuts.

Just as some brawlers can be overrated based on seeing a pleasing style, boxers imo very often are overrated by fans themselves.

I've noticed that often times boxers are percieved to have gotten the job done just as long as they dont get beatdown at will from the percieved stronger punching so called brawler......

....an example being Jermaine Taylor imo handily getting a points victory over Cory Spinks, but many in this forum due to Jermaine not being able to badly hurt Spinks, had Spinks winning the fight!

Percieved boxers many times do very little offensively but get credit by some for not getting beatdown from pillar to post.

The point being that boxers just as well as brawlers are often times undeservedly credited and overrated!

......and people, just because a fighter hands down beatdowns and KO's does'nt make him a headfirst nose diving brawler which many of you like to label them.
The beatdowns and KO's can also come from brilliantly executed suffocating power boxing!

of course they do. How could guys Pipino Cuevas, Matt Saad Muhammad, or Rocky Graziano make it in the hall so soon while fighters like Hector Camacho may never get in even though they accomplished more. Guys like Gatti, ans Julio Cesar Chavez, get the admiration while Mayweather and Pernell Whitaker, more skilled fighters(and guys that outclass them) are seen as Cowards because they took time to learn the nuances of the sport. Its an old adage old as boxing

I dunno why they see the brawlers as the fighters that have the most courage? It takes more courage to fight a guy that can hurt you and you can't hurt him but still beat them and makes them look stupid while doing it.

I agree with your point but in the interest of accuracy, I've never seen anyone call Pernell a coward.

I'm not trying to say one type of fighters are tougher than other types of fighters but a fighter like PBF gets the reps by fans that he's a ***** and fighters like Hatton get the rep that he's the warrior. I think that all fighters are warriors.

Actually I think brawlers and pressure fighters often get underrated in terms of skills.

For example, Julio Cesar Chavez was an intelligent pressure fighter a terrific ability to throw combos, rolled with shots very well, had a good variety of punchers and a nice assortment of skills, but often that is overlooked and people look at his toughness and determination rather than his skills.

    Point well made:good

I don't like it either when fans call slick boxers "pussies" or say they are afraid of getting hit.
