Do fans sometimes overestimate the advantage abusing PED`s can give one fighter over another?

Steroids potentiate nerves and can improve speed and explosiveness if a person trains for it, but it will only take you closer to your genetic limit. It's definitely a game changer if used right but at the same time not magic.

    Answer me one simple question.....
If PED;s do not enhance a mans performance
WHY the hell does he cheat & use them ???
Then make ludicrous excuses like .....
I accidently ate tainted beef LOL
I was severely dehydrated I had to have a 750 ml Saline drip 24 hours before my fight LOL..
All Ped's abusers should be BANNED from the sport PERIOD!!! No exceptions

Actually the real irony is that Ben Johnson's close friend and confidant was Di_ck Pound who defended him rigorously only to lose because Johnson was infact a doper just like Lewis. The irony is that Pound would later become the chairman of WADA. That there is irony defined. Pound also illegally went after Lance Armstrong by overstepping the statute of limitations and illegal procuring his samples from 99. That's ironic too.

When a guy's willing to turn down 50 million dollars so he can continue to use them, the answer is hell no

Is that an exact science though, I feel it`s a lot more hit and miss and very complex, sounds like when Popeye used to eat his spinach.

This. It really depends, since everybody doesn’t respond the same to steroids. Plenty of my teammates from college, who went on to play in NBA used equipoise and testosterone and in my opinion only one or two of the players actually performed better. Also, steroids are a double edged sword, since if you have heart disease in your family taking steroids can increase the chance of your heart failing.

Holyfield actually started having heart problems as early as 1987, but it got even worse as he kept adding on size. One of my buddies Ronny Turiaf also developed heart problems from his use and the sad thing is like Holyfield he didn’t need them and performed worse after putting on the size.

Also, no amount of steroids is going to transform a mediocre or average fighter into a world class fighter.

Steriods help increase your potential growth past your genetic limits.

PED's can help on power, stamina, mental awareness (Increased blood flow) and various other traits that can be useful in boxing. The only major negative is, you have to be very very smart with your dosing and cycling as most PED's side effects will reduce the positive of another.

Most "Muscle Bulking" steriods with have a heavy negative effect on stamina due to the vast increase of cholesterol in the system.

Ask yourself this simple question regarding "Are PED's that useful in boxing?". Does strength/stamina play a big part into boxing ? If yes, then PED's are a huge benefit. If not, then no they dont.

I feel Roids were the reason Holy`s heart was bad during his dreadful display v Moorer in their fist bout and why his health is so bad now.

Lol to the guys who are unaware of the massive advantages steroids bring.

It’s really not rocket science. No, steroids won’t make the average guy world class or even close to world class.

But if you have two dedicated world class fighters, of a similar level, I.e. world class, one takes steroids and the other one doesn’t, then yes this will make a HUGE difference to strength, stamina, power, even psychologically you feel limitless whilst on steroids. The guy that takes the steroids would almost certainly win the fight.

I thought this was pretty obvious though??

Lance came to mind straight away re PEDs as the clean version wasn’t even competitive, talking 5% edge on the field.Personally I don’t think he should of been stripped as those in contention were all doping anyway.
What gets me is how folk can’t believe nice folk would dope to win,Wiggins,Marion Jones ect did it to win.

You better believe that blood doping and all the other stuff works or else why bother?

The more tired you are, the less strength, reflexes and speed you have.

    No, it's not overstimated. Imho.

You only need to watch pacman vs margarito to know that we are not overstimating anything.

Depends on what PED was used and to a lesser extent why. Some substances that are banned and considered PEDs would astonish a lot of people, stuff like blood pressure medication (most are vasodilators so improve blood flow) to add/adhd medication like adderall (which is a mixture of two different amphetamine salts - ya it’s literally speed/pharma-grade amphetamine). Way more boxers and pro athletes get away with PED usage than get caught, especially the most hardcore kind - anabolic steroids. Nandrolone, which is what Fury popped hot for is a HIGHLY anabolic steroid and stays in someone’s system for a year to 18 months from one full cycle. Any pro athlete that pops hot for that should be automatically banned for life and are borderline slow if not entirely. Clenbuterol which is what Camelot took is a steroid but used mainly as a cutting agent in a stack - usually with some Esther of testosterone and dianabol. I promise you Camelot has taken far more anabolic PEDs than Clen, but his promoters have deep enough pockets to have designer steroids and cycles designed specifically for their boy. That’s the scariest part, if someone has deep enough pockets or their promoter does it will be next to impossible for them to ever get caught on a test and if they do then whatever association/commission that popped them is getting paid handsomely and swept under the rug.

Anabolic substances, especially steroids, have no place in boxing the sport is dangerous enough as is. They can make you much more explosive, stronger, faster, bigger, leaner, allow you to train harder and longer while recovering faster, the list is just too long and the advantages way too unfair. How do you think BHop was still fighting world class opponents at 50 and remaining competitive? He was 100% dirty AF.

That said, no drug - performance enhancing or not - can improve your technique, skills, fundamentals and things like that, but what they can do is improve someone’s physical abilities to insane levels. They don’t teach you how to fight they just make you a far more capable and impressive physical specimen. Which ABSOLUTELY is beneficial, more than most could ever imagine.
