Probly a silly question but if a fighter wins a championship belt and they loose do they get to keep it as a trophey of when they were champ or do they have to hand it back and it goes to the person who beats them????

I've always assumed they got to keep them kinda like how i still have my amatuer championship belt (although i haven't been beaten since winning it but it will always be mine)

If they do get to keep the belt im guesin its all covered in the sanctioning fees,.

The fighters get to keep the belt. They actually have to pay for it when they win it, and no, the sanctioning fee does not cover the cost of the belt.

When you see the fighters holding their new belt, many times you can see the face of the fighter they just beat on the belt (especially on the WBC). After celebrating, you must return it and they send you a new one soon after.

After Taylor beat Hopkins, he didnt have his IBF belt yet, so when he went to a celebration Leavander Johnson (RIP) lent Taylor his IBF belt. Classy guy...rest in peace champ.
