Like, I love sum good Evan Fields fights and Roid Jones jr. unmatchable run but it's undeniable the help they got from 'em, and, to quote another user from another thread, that **** casts a huge shadow over their win. One could also argue that basically most of the fighters are on them, AJ too said time ago it's a common problem in boxing, but still, busted with them like Mosley did puts them down in mine.
Me personally? - I think people are all looking for every edge in the business. It can at times be life and death. To me the best boxers existed long before PED's so it doesn't bother me.
No. I think people are very naive about the prevalence of PED use not only in boxing but sports in general. Think the universality of unethical behavior in politics, the media, corporations, religious institutions, NGOs, academia, and every other sphere of public life. Why would sports, especially a sport like boxing, be any different? If your competition is engaging in an biochemical arms race, you basically have no choice but to partake as well. Some of them are just foolish or unlucky enough to be caught.
For many years I gave Fighters the benefit of the doubt but not anymore, I just assume that all of the top guys are on them now. I've been a boxing fan for 50 years, and truly feel that the older time boxers were much better than the boxers of today. Even on film. If the steroids are so beneficial, why don't we see guys around today that are on the average much greater than the older fighters?
If i had a list of who was definitively on them and who wasn't i'd certainly take it into account but i'm never going to know. It's a bit of a conundrum but what can you do.
I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to these things, but I was wondering if there could be a situation where they are never able to pass the test? What if they were tested once a week even while not fighting or not even leading up to a fight? Would that guarantee then that one could not cheat?
I pretty much assume the majority of top athletes are taking some sort of PEDs nowadays and stopped caring.
I believe that any single victory that can be conclusively tied to PEDs (i.e.: Garcia's over Haney or Mosley's over DLH) should be discounted - I don't believe in having a defeatist attitude of, "Oh well, everyone's probably doing it anyway," which is criminally unfair to any fighter that has the integrity to not do it. At the same time, I also don't believe in discounting a fighter's entire career b/c they were tied to PEDs at a particular stage of it, i.e.: I don't discount Holyfield's entire career b/c he was exposed as ordering PEDs in 2004 or Erik Morales' career b/c he tested positive before his final fight, or Mosley's achievements @ 135-147 b/c he admitted to using PEDs @ 154.
I have absolutely no respect for any Ped's abusers To me they are basically cowards who cannot win without cheating
Unpopular opinion but for Holyfield, yes. I believe almost all pros are on enhancements but it's debatable if Evander could have had the career he had at HW without the PEDs totally changing his mass and build. He was a naturally slender guy before he hooked up with pro-bodybuilding champ Lee Haney to add slabs of lean muscle to his frame. Without PEDs he'd have likely never left CW.
Has any fighter ever tested positive for PEDs and been disqualified because of that? Not that I know of, but I stopped paying attention in the '90s.
They def get lowered on mine…problem is today they’re prob all on roids. Which makes it hard to rank. That being said no fighter today will take an all time ranking due to inactivity and all of them avoiding the best fighters till they’re all old.
Ryan Garcia recently had a win against Devin Haney changed to a no-contest for taking PEDs. James Toney’s win over John Ruiz for the WBA HW title was also changed to a no-contest
