Strange though isnt it? Id think with guys so big that itd be more dangerous especially when you have a weight difference of almost 50lbs in some cases. 7lbs is a big deal at WW but 40lbs isnt a big deal at hw.

Nah it makes sense when you like, scale it. like at 120 pounds 7 pounds is a bigger portion of your body than it would be at 220.

I have heard this also, that it can happen, but I cannot point to any fight where it happened.

Of course in the old days they cared much less about these things.

ahhh very good point bro. Never thought of it like that.that makes more sense. but if someone outweighs you by 40lbs its still 40lbs or even 20lbs if things are pretty even. Its still a pretty big advantage regardless of size. I dont know it just seems off but i see your point.

No, only if you come in over the weight division, as a heavyweight you can weight what you want.........

Pro boxing should have lower limits. The amateurs do, to prevent size mismatches.

Pac weighed under 147 for what was officially a light middleweight bout against Margarito. And it happened often in the old days.

Doesn't count as below the limit of the lower division, as cruiser wasn't changed to 200 till 2004.

If I remember correctly commissions started to implemented the amount of weight a fighter can weigh less than the division limit after the Robinson/ Maxim fight. It's a bit out of date and I can't be bothered searching but it was something like this:

junior flyweight (108 pounds) 4 pounds
    flyweights (112 pounds) 5 pounds
junior bantamweight (115 pounds) 6 pounds
    bantamweights (118 pounds) 7 pounds
junior featherweight (122 pounds) 7 pounds
    featherweights (126 pounds) 8 pounds
junior lightweight (130 pounds) 9 pounds
    lightweights (135 pounds) 10 pounds
junior welterweight (140 pounds) 11 pounds
    welterweights (147 pounds) 12 pounds
junior middleweight (154 pounds) 13 pounds
    middleweights (160 pounds) 13 pounds
super middleweight (168 pounds) 13 pounds
light heavyweights (175 pounds) 14 pounds
    cruiserweight (190 pounds) 15 pounds
heavyweights (all over 190 pounds) no limitations

or a midget doing a bounce flip over Amir Khan and cracking him in the jaw mid-flight. we do need more rules to protect the glass.

I thought Jones came in at 199 for the Ruiz fight.
