Do hardcore boxing fans really know what the casual fan thinks?

You here people on here claim that a fighters style, say Mayweather or Wlad is "Bad for boxing" as the casual fan won't find it interesting, where has this been proven? because Mayweather continues to get huge PPV numbers and Wlad just fought with an attendance of 51000+. Do hardcore fans underestimate the appreciation that the casual fan has for a very good technical boxing match?

I couldn't tell you what those Germans think. Presumably, as others have mentioned, it is a combination of the following that makes Wlad so popular: 1) He fights their more often than not now; 2) He's a dominant heavyweight; 3) Despite a safety first style, he often closes the show with concussive knockouts.

As for Floyd, I believe it also can be explained: 1) He's the preeminent black American fighter who draws very heavily on the sizable black fan contingent; 2) He promotes fights exceptionally well and has established himself as a top rate villain; 3) HBO has been behind him for his past several fights, which gives him direct access to millions of casual fans.

mayweather knows that boxing dont get the general publics attention much anymore. you have to go outside the usual boxing scene to draw in more fans. Thats why he is all over ESPN, on pro wrestling, on radio shows, he is everywhere promoting himself, his fights and boxing. That is why he gets so much money when he fights because he draws in PPV sales from people who dont watch other fights

People who say Mayweather is bad for boxing usually are praying to be able to sniff Pacquiao's jockstrap. Mayweather promotes fights well, he constantly is crossing over into other media platforms and is on ESPN pretty often, and he is taking the mantle from Oscar De La Hoya on how to be the face of boxing. Add that on that he is pretty entertaining to watch.

Wladimir is a similar story but for Germany and Eastern Europe. The man is loved by the Europeans because he fights often and knows how to close the show. He does what a Heavyweight is supposed to do and that is knock people out.

Yes but people claim that he is "boring" to watch and his style would turn the casual fans away but they keep coming back to watch his next fight even though his style is "boring". He is just one example, there are others.

The casual fan really doesn't understand -- or care about-- the nuances of the game. He's drawn to the ballyhoo of the event, like watching the Kentucky Derby.

The casual boxing fans, at least the ones I know, only recognizes and pays to see their fav fighter or if the fighters involved are mega stars. They like to see the "run and gun offensive devil may care type of fights" only. If the fighter is not a busy fighter, so to speak, then it's boring to them.

most casual fans in America are still fans in the sense that they grew up watching it but as time went on they lost interest, but that does not change the fact that it is ingrained in us to watch the BIG fight. weather a person follows boxing or not, most U.S. fans could probably still walk pass PAC ( California don't count) that doesnt change the fact that when he is in the next BIG fight they wont order it

It's not bad for boxing. Top fighters with different styles is good for the sport. It makes for interesting match-ups and casual fans can appreciate that as they get more into the game.
