Okay ive been boxing for about 9-10ish months so i didn't get into last season in time but i will be registering this season. i am 6'2 11 stone=154 pounds and im 16. i would like to stay this weight and i have no problem doing so, however i would like to build up in muscle (i know that this doesn't make me a better boxer) but i would like to get bigger to look better body wise. however ino that if i get bigger obviously i will become heavier making my opponents bigger also. should i forget it and just consentrate on the boxing or should i build up and box bigger fighters. thoughts please?
If you just wanna be intimidating and be able to kick ass on the street, muscling up isnt a bad idea. However, if you want to compete, moving up will only give you bigger stronger oppenents and i dont know why anyone would want that unless your looking for a challenge.
yes thats what im thinking. and no im not looking to beat some scumbags up out on a friday night. just to look better, i mean bigger arms and pecks never hurt anyone. i just dont no what to do because i want to box next season but obviously i dont want to be fighting bigger guys. Don't no what to doatsch
yes. however bulking up i have no problem doing i went to the gym before i started boxing nothing serious and i bulked up pretty fast i think, im no expert. You still going to be boxing next season, now dont no how it works were you are.
Yes. I'm 152 right now and I want to be around 165 which isn't THAT big of a jump, but with an extra 13 pounds of muscle I'd look pretty ripped, considering I'm only 5'11"
talk to your coach and see what he thinks is best. I mean at 16 you are going to gain weight in the future anyways and will eventually be moving up in weight classes. You are going to gain weight and muscle naturally anyways. Ask your coach if he thinks it would be good for you to try to put on muscle now especially considering you are a teenager and have time for a good growth spurt.
Hmm, not sure what I'd recommend. Like the post above me says your only 16 and going to gain weight naturally. You'll probably put it on pretty good in the next couple of years. One way to look at it is if boxing is the most important thing to you, and your looking at becoming a pro, or doing something...You should really stay at the same weight, and let nature take it's course. This way you can start out fighting smaller guys (get your experience up), and then as you grow in skill...You also grow in size. I'm quite skilled, and believe I could do well in boxing, but I chose more of the weight lifting side of the fence. I'm only about 5'6 and around 162. I'm strong, quick, and can hit pretty hard...My only drawback is taking on somebody like you, if you know how to work your jab, and keep me at bay. So, the way I look it at it, even if I'd win I'm sure I'd take some punishment getting in to a tall, lean person who can hit hard. NOT WORTH IT TO ME whenever I could just use my body to fitness model, bodybuild, personal training, etc. If you do decide to bulk up focus a lot on your legs, and neck. You need strong legs to box, and you need a strong neck to absorb punches. Also, pushing exercises are more important than pulling. It's up to you, but it's best to make a choice ASAP if your looking to make a career of it.
yes thanks, thinking about it i could just go up in weight a little after all im 6'2 and only 154 pounds so i could still keep my hight advantage right just not be as much.:good
yes i will do, i know my coach has been talking about me training me with lighter weights to get stronger and not bigger, then he goes on a rant about muscle fibres lol. thanks.
Yes im not so much looking as it as a career choice but i have thought about becoming pro one day, but im commited on doing the ametures its just do i keep a hight advantage or do i just bulk up, im not sure how much but im not wanting to be huge, just a little something extra. cheers.
