Funny, he couldn't finish him there, nor in the ring either.

Do you happen to have any shots of him whipping that pitcher of water at Donald, or am i thinking of two different fighters?

Ahh McGrain, McGrain. These aren't baubles. Boxing men have always, always wondered, regreted, and speculated about what happened or what "coulda been".... Hell, even Jones has opened his eyes and now agrees more with me than with Senya about his failure to consider his legacy.

You must have the same appreciation as I do for this fine cinematic work... it is pugilist's lament:

I dont think Bowe lost that second fight. He may not have won it but he sure didnt lose either. And the loss at the olympics is as political as it gets.

don't deny it. I know that the ref was waiting for Lewis to land his first clean blow and then step in. Anyone who has fought at the amateur level knows about these things.

Bowe wasnt never hurt even if it was a good shot.

The outcome was determined by politics and I'm sure that this was also behind Bowe stepping aside for Lewis and handing him that belt.

Bowe would never fear a man like Lewis who didnt have a chin to begin with. My man Bowe would never have been cut down the way LL was. Bowe would mop the floor with that slab of meat and take him out with time to spare.

Lewis is a big guy who knew the fundamentals well and improved upon by Steward but once hurt in a fight-that was all she wrote. he could never come back from it. He could never adjust and use his head the way Bowe did in that third fight, moving his head while pushing his jab out in Holi's face. Lewis never possesed these kind of intangibles that the great ones have.

Riddick was built from a different stock altogether and had more inside where it counts. You saw it in the 2nd round of the first holyfield fight the way he rumbles when caught and again in the third fight, his crowning moment of glory.

Admit it and confess to me that Bowe owned Holifield, the third best heavyweight according to Steve Farthood. He beat the daylights out of him in that first fight especially in round 11 and was already well ahead. You could even see just before the decision was finished being announced that Evander was already pointing to Bowe that he was the winner!

That's called owning your opponent when he's already acknowledging you won. Even Chavez, as badly outclassed as he was by Pernell, still had his hands raised, hoping for the best and a gift decision, which he got.

What politics dictated that Lewis had to win against Bowe during the games?

Bowe sure as hell went on to make a bigger splash and get bigger paydays faster than Lewis could of dreamed.

    Good commercial for Fila.

Donald had one hell of a chin, too.

Correct answer: Lewis vs Mercer, Lewis vs Klitschko, Lewis vs Briggs.

When i watch Holyfield vs Bowe I, i thought: Damn, if Holyfield just sticks to boxing he can get a decision. Steward saw that, too, and realised it in their second fight. It was about to happen in their third fight, almost by 6th round knockout, if not for Holyfield magically getting the Steroids flu.

Bowe stepped up and took the chance when he had it, but i just can't help but think Bowe's victories were more Holyfield's losses than Bowe's wins.

    Bowe was very good.

He was either the number 1 or number 2 heavyweight from November 1992 through to mid-'96, IN MY OPINION, and many people here say the mid-90s was one of the best eras for heavyweights.

Some of the criticisms levelled at him are pretty poor, in my opinion. For example, "he "only" has the Holyfield trilogy", that's just silly, he went 2-1 against arguably the best heavyweight of that era within a 3-year period and the performances were impressive.

Bowe showed good skills and a lot of heart. He was very good. His peak only lasted 3-4 years and he wasted it, but during that time he was performing at least on a par with Holyfield and Lewis (his only real rivals), and a lot better than his contemporaries Mercer, Morrison, Seldon, or even Moorer, all of whom "failed to live up to their potential" even more so than Bowe did.

Whether you believe Golota always "had his number" or Bowe was already burned out and skills faded, doesn't really matter. Those fights were the end of the line for Bowe, and no one denies that Golota displayed some very impressive skills of his own before losing the fights with his stupid bum tactics.

I think you're forgetting one small detail. Holyfield was an 11 fight novice when he faced Qawi the first time and managed to go 15 rounds to take the win. This was hardly the case with Riddick Bowe fighting Holyfield. Bowe was already a very well developed professional.

I never said Bowe Holyfield one happened in 1995. I clearly said Bowe Holyfield 3 happened in 1995 when Holyfield was past it, and also said that Holyfield was slightly past his peak for the first fight in 92' as well. I think you need to reread the post, and it was you who said that Bowe beat a "peak" Holyfield "twice"

Hindsite tells us Cooper was able to sqeak into the top 10 for a brief period, but at the time, he was nobody. Still, a good win for Bowe, but nothing to get excited about.

Oh, boy you obviously don't read before responding, which makes this an aweful lot of work. I clearly said that upon Tyson's incarceration, Francesco Damiani was called in as a last minute replacment. DAMIANI, NOT TYSON, suffered an injury, and THEN Bert Cooper was given a shot. So in other words, Cooper was a backup to a backup.

Another fight you obviously didn't see nor know anything about. And anyway, it doesn't make Bowe's Ko over Ferguson more impressive, for reasons that I've already listed twice now.

A credible win yes, but he was hardly a contender at that time, given his long history of losing fights. Bowe was highly criticized for fighting both Dokes and Ferguson, when there were far better contenders available. People were calling Ferguson " The bum of the month". I know this to be fact, because I lived through the times and remember those fights, and the circumstances that surrounded them.

Jesse was green when he fought Tyson, but Tyson was even greener. You try and make this claim that Tyson looked beautiful pounding everyone else, yet Ferguson was the first guy who Tyson faced that even resembled a good fighter. Do you not think that there is a difference in comparison between a 19 year old fighter, who has 17 bouts, and a 25 year old world champion who has 33??? I think you already said so yourself, by pointing out that Bowe's win over Cooper was a good one because he had only 19 fights. Ferguson was shot by 1993. He had more experience, but it wasn't helping him much. He was 36 years old and losing fights regularly. The other key difference here, is that Tyson fought Ferguson as a stepping stone when he was only a prospect. Bowe gave a goddamn title shot to the guy for Christ's sake.

Coming from the man who calls Big foot Martin a contender and claiming that Bowe beat a prime version of Ferguson, I seriously have to question your ability to dicern what is fact. And I wonder if you saw that fight.

You say that Martin competed on the elite level??? He was on an 8 fight losing streak when Bowe fought him. And besides, you have now changed your postion from calling Martin a contender to a journeyman after I gave you the low down on him. The Witherspoon fight didn't happen until after bowe beat Martin, and as I said before it was a robbery anyway.

How am I twisting facts? I have spent more time on this thread correcting your factual errors, without even having a chance to manipulate facts.

    1. You called Everett Martin a contender

    2. You claim that Bowe beat a PEAK Holyfield TWICE,

    3. You call Bowe's win over Ferguson impressive, and what's more compare it to Tyson's win over him, which has no relevance whatsoever given the perspective phases of their careers.

    4. You called Bert Cooper a top contender

    5. You confused my statement about Bert Cooper being called in as a replacement for Francesco Damiani, and then claimed that I said Tyson pulled out because of injury????

    6. You have commented on a number of fights that you obviously didn't see, because you reffered to them as good fights, and failed to acknowledge some of the details and circumstanes that went with those fights, ie. Martin vs Witherspoon, Ferguson vs Mercer, Bowe vs Tubbs, Tyson vs Ferguson, etc.

Dude seriously, I like Riddick Bowe too, but you obviously don't know his career or the era that he came up in in depth.

I actually started to set up the right screens to take slick to town on about two dozen points he's made in here that totally contradict recent posts he's made in regard to Tyson, a fighter he can't stand. I'm letting it go for now as, it will take ages to do, he won't get it anyway, and i might be seen as a bully

So the book embarrassment in the Tillis thread will have to do for now

This dude is calling Everett Martin a contender. How do you always manage to attract the finest element to some of your threads John? Then again, who am I to criticize as of late...
