Do legendary fights get undue credit 'cause they sounded so exciting on the radio?

No opins from ol' timers on this subject? Surprising.

Thought sure there'd be posters chompin'-at-the-bit ta make their case.

No particular fight jg, but when i was a youngster I would listen to Sam
Taub on radio describing the fights..Taub's staccato's style announcing
the bouts , made every fight seem as exciting as Dempsey fighting Louis..
Sam Taub was a great boxing announcer on early radio..Imagination takes
over on radio with an exciting announcer...Contemplation often is better
    than reality..b.b.

You may be onto something there JG cos people would have had to use their imagination a lot more plus the commentater would have to tell it punch for punch, so it may seem more action packed than it actually was. My only experience of listening to a fight on the radio was tyson-bruno 1 and i stayed up til 3am GMT to catch it live rather than watch it on tv the next day as no doubt i wouldnt have heard the end of it if bruno won. I was the only irish guy working with about 100 or so englishmen so it would have been unavoidable. Anyway, the fight sounded brilliant and from what i was hearing, bruno was knocking 7 colours of **** outta tyson for 1 or 2 rounds before the inevitable stoppage. I couldnt wait to see this evenly contested fight the next day. What a let down when i seen it with my own eyes! It was nothing like what i imagined it was, listening to the radio.

I often think that some of todays heavyweight clashes would sound a lot more exciting on radio than watching. Actually, i am quite surprised that there arent more widely spread internet sound broadcasts of the fights.

i listened to a lot of the fights in the 70's.dave boy green fighting carlos palamino springs to mind.green was giving palamino a good fight till his eye closed and he couldn't see the left hook.
the fight looked just as good as it sounded.
