is this generally the case? mayweather and gatti come to mind. you'd think it'd be the other way around. does anyone have an explanation for this ?
No generally the bigger punchers have problems, but some guys just have brittle hands, as in the case of Mayweather.
yeah mayweather and calzaghe are the biggest names with brittle hands....personally i dont think Mayweather is a light puncher......and Joe Cal has a decent KO %....its more brittle hands and punching style than it is light punching or heavy punching
i heard a funny he was a fierce puncher and like most punches he used to break his hands very easily. usually by the ref standing on them while he was being counted out god i have to stop trolling... usualy it's just reocuring wounds. broken bones heal and somtimes stronger but there is a natural fine break where it keeps breaking again and again.
What do you guys think about them not clenching their fists when they punch, if your just slapping and doing it fast and as hard as possible you can get hurt./
Light punchers injure their hands because they do not close their fist properly. All boxers at some point in their career have hand injuries. It is mainly because teams do not know how to wrap hands properly. All trainers are not great hand wrappers either.
Gatti was no light puncher. Neither were De La Hoya, Fenech, or RJJ and they've had hand problems too. It's just the nature of the sport.
