Do Mexicans dislike Sergio Martinez? Based on Style or Race?

Mexicans don't know who Sergio Martinez is. Actually, besides hardcore fans most people don't know who he is.

Look I'm Mexican and rooting for Martinez here, so let's not get carried away with generalizations.

But yes, like any other group, there are those biased Mexican fans that are blinded by nationalism and hate for any fighter that challenges their boxer. Whatever the motive was to vandalize Sergio's car, there is no arguing that it was a very cowardly act.

Yup, Look what happened to DLH after defeating Chavez Sr. twice. He was disowned by most Mexicans.

 

I gotta agree on this...I am mexican and I am rooting for martinez...see At JMMs latest fight with the arena filled with just mexican people, JCC Sr got a huge reception but when ring anouncer introduced both Omar and JCC Jr people booed them big time

Hate is too strong a word seeing how Martinez is not that well known. Mexicans will simply side with the name they recognize the most and it's obvious who that is.
Mexicans who do follow boxing though, know who Martinez is and recognize that he will most likely win even though rooting for their country fighter to the end.

we love martinez...many mexicans hate chavez and are actually rooting for martinez...but that's only so they dont feel stupid...mexicans are proud, so they wanna be right at all cost, even if it means going against their own....mexicans who love boxing hate to admit that they're wrong, and with chavez, since many think he's a spoiled punk, can't wait to see chavez jr lose.....since jr has proven many of them wrong, they're actually banking on martinez to make this kid look silly so that they can have that "i told you so " mentality...but what those idiots fail to realize is jr has already reached, and passed his expectations a long time ago......


but to answer your question....no, we dont hate martinez

 

Stating the obvious: as long as Sergio is fighting a Mexican, the majority of Mexican boxing fans will go against him. Other than that they appear to be indifferent. As for Sergio's style, as long as he is knocking people out he's impressive. I admire having guts but this is boxing and foot movement, when used properly, is a form of art. If I want to see two guys standing in one spot punching each other until one falls to the ground, I'd just go to the local bar or visit the nearest ghetto.
