Routine winnable fights. He was knocked about in pretty much all of them.

Whyte has already fought joshua in which he was knocked out. The rematch would most probably have ended the same way. Surely tho if whyte was all just about money....he,d have taking that 6 or 7 million. He,d have took less of a shellacking than he,s took over 4 or 5 fights to get that same money. He needed to go away and rebuild....get more experience before having another crack at joshua. Hes in the process of that. Joshua, fury, wilder.

Its like you think hes earning the same money as joshua. Joshua earned 50 million 2 fights ago. Whyte will be lucky to get say 1 or 2 million. The alternative is he gets about 50,000 fighting these guys.

You,ve said joshuas a superstar...a one off. Theres only about 2 guys in boxing that command that sort of money atm. But what if there wasnt a superstar in the division. They all just fight it out for 50,000 a pop. While steve davis sits on his 40 million quid...or someone in golf thats sitting 10th in the world worth 30 million.

What your sayings fine but in the real world it doesnt and wont work. Theres no investment. They need to come up with an alternative. The reality is boxing fans need to pay to grow the sport...or even get good coverage.

The problem is mate no one in enough numbers supported that integrated sport your talking about. What else can you do. Keep doing it and getting the same results. You need to then sell it to a bigger market.

    Exactly what their doing now.

The way Molina went down last night was very similar to how he went down against Hrgovic...seemed to be nothing much in it and complaining about getting hit at the back of the head. The fella clearly has zero ambition, he just knows when to fall over. I like Wardley, not his fault.

This. I've said in other posts that PPV's like last night and freak show PPV's like Tyson - Jones, Logan Paul, the upcoming Chavez Sr fight as well as previous talk of a Pacquiao - Ryan Garcia exhibition bout make me concerned about boxing's future.
Could get to the point were it becomes normal for established boxers to be fighting YT'ers and for active top level fighters to be in exhibition bouts as insane as it sounds.
You do wonder were the sport will be in a few years, one thing I'm sure of is that as increasingly difficult as it already is it's going to be become an absolute nightmare to follow boxing as a fan with numerous streaming subscription services and any fight with fan appeal will be stuck on PPV.

I worry about the general mentality. People that pretty much go about there day hating everyone. Its all eddies fault. Or its all franks fault. Or its all the governments fault. But when someone explains the reality of things...i,ll accuse them of worshipping these people. Its not about eddie or dillian whyte or any single person in boxing. What part of that do you not get.

Its about there being no real investment in boxing. Someone needs to fund it all. No one wants to. Either the fans do it or no one does it. Thats the reality.

But we can keep blaming everyone else instead cause bringing other people down makes us feel better.

"Dillian whytes a fat pudding everyone....i could have done the same...wasnt worth my time tho...would rather have a pint instead telling people there all useless"

And that's exactly why he knows he's still not good enough to beat Joshua. He's struggling to win against Chisora, lucky to win at all against Parker, has a close win over Rivas, needs two attempts to get past Povetkin. It is what it is.
He obviously calculated that he could make £ 6 million in two or three winnable fights against borderline top 10 and top 20 fighters on PPV, instead of actually trying to crack the "top level" and avenge the AJ defeat.
Maybe a poor calculation in light of the Povetkin loss, but he's still raking in the loot.

Whyte pretended to want the AJ rematch as soon as the first fight (2015) was over, and by early 2019 he'd beat Helenius, Browne, then on PPV Parker and Chisora .... he'd rebuilt himself, was calling out Wilder for the WBC, had called out AJ for years before then.
You're saying he's still not ready, I agree.
It's almost 6 years of "process" of gaining experience. SIX YEARS almost, now.
In the meantime he's been elevated to PPV star heavyweight with the marketing angle that he's the hard-luck avoided super-contender.
    It's ridiculous.

But the fact that he's not capable of beating Joshua doesn't give him an entitlement to "elite pay" on PPV against lesser fighters.
You can't call someone an elite heavyweight at the top level and then make excuses that he's not ready to face the world champion. You can't talk about what a hard road he's trodden and what he deserves, when he balks at a huge payday to test himself against one of the actual best.

If they want the big money (MILLION pounds per fight) they ought to be equipped and prepared to fight the world champion.

If he took the AJ fight and won it, he'd have been paid £6 million at least, and would have been on similar money as Joshua in a huge rematch.

If you're talking about Steve Davis the snooker player, he's been around for decades, and has had multiple sponsorship, and was world champion several times, world number 1 for years. It's a bit silly to bring him into the discussion.
And even then I doubt he's worth quite £40 million.

As for "50,000 a pop" .... no, it wouldn't work like that.
The world championship (even without a crossover superstar like AJ) will also be valued as something more than that.
The contenders fight amongst themselves for less, yes, to earn a shot at the championship.
And I think fans would generally accept that a world heavyweight champion versus a top 5 challenger or any attractive credible challenger could be floated on the pay-per-pay system without it being a scam.

The sport would be in far better shape if that was agreed by fans and promoters alike.

Instead, we get a situation where Whyte gets hyped onto PPV for fights against the likes of Rivas or Chisora, rather than step up and test himself against the actual best. And I'm sure he'd love a PPV fight with a 42-year David Haye next if he could get it.

People have always supported boxing. It always has some latent mass appeal.
The thing that prevents it from becoming 100% mainstream and respected is the corrupt and confused structure, the phoney ratings, the hyped and fraudulent match-ups, etc.
Those things the drive towards the pay-per-view has made worse, not better.

Your arguments seem to have everything back-to-front.
You seem to be saying expansion of the PPV is the solution to make boxing bigger, more mainstream and grow it as a sport, but it's not. It's just encouraging promoters and boxers to abandon any semblance of structure and rationality, de-values the world titles further, encouarges more 'celebrity boxing' and all sorts of sideshows. Turns boxing into the sleazy wh0re of televised sport.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

We have "final eliminator" with a rematch clause if the wrong guy wins, we have "the avoided contender" turning down 6 or 7 million pounds for a chance to fight for a world title and avenge his only defeat and become a huge crossover star, we have Whyte point blank refusing Parker a rematch when he scraped through their "people's eliminator" with a headbutt scored as a knockdown (but nevermind, Bellew at ringside assures us Whyte won every round ), but Povetkin wins by 5th round KO and is contractual obliged to roll out of his covid ward hospital bed to satisfy Whyte's road to greatness. We have Oscar Rivas, who most hardcore boxing fans had barely heard of a year earlier, being brought in as a PPV foil for Whyte, and a journalist exposes the fact that the UK boxing/doping authorities allowed Whyte to fight depsite him testing positive for ****ing dianabol.
But it's all good clean fun, of course. Nothing to see here.

And that's just Dillian Whyte, who I still regard as more legit than Haye-Bellew.

Nothing else for it tho mate. Not enough people wanted what they we,re selling so they,ve to find other ways. Tbf good fights are being made...or we,re up until the pandemic anyway.

    Also an argumen

Take steve davis out the equation. Look up the 15th best tennis player in the world probably never heard of him... and see what their worth is.

Do it for snooker. Or even darts.

He did test himself against the best....he lost. Hes now away to learn and take on the next best challengers. But these guys hes beating are still the elite in his weight class. Hes still fighting in the top ten guys in the whole world or there abouts of his weight class.

What your saying is one guy dominates all the money and the rest are lucky to make a living. Tbh i dont fancy your odds....how do you sell that to the next generation of boxers.

You,ll probably end up punch drunk....you,ll be in bed after fights struggling to move....take bad injuries. Get knocked about in sparring a lot. End up with knackered hands...to make great money you need to become the best fighter in your village...then your whole county...then your whole city. Then your whole country....then the whole of britain. Then become one of the best in the whole world.

"Will i be a millionaire then"

No your fighting for chicken feed unless you get to fight the very best one in the world.

Sign me up...this sounds too good to be true.

    Its dream world stuff mate.

It sounds allright...till you start looking into it.

The sport wouldnt be kn a better shape if that happened what your saying...just means everyone gets paid less. If your getting lowballed for fighting top ten guys...what are you getting for fighting top 50 guys. The truth is the sport would be on its knees and even less guys would manage a living out of it.

The WBSS did pretty well from what I could gather mate. And yes I honestly think if they kept doing stuff like that then boxing could pick up some steam.

UFC has gone from strength to strength because it is so easy to pick up and follow any fighter you like. You watch the fights and you clearly see the rankings and their records. In the press conferences with multiple fighters there's nowhere to hide and genuine rivalries are made.

Boxing is 10 times what UFC is as a sport (in my biased view). But it is so bloody difficult to follow.. it's just 'event' after 'event' with no rhyme or reason to it. What happens next with Whyte for example is anyone's guess. But I do know if he gets his 'long-awaited' shot at the WBC, then he barely lands a glove on Fury. That's what the 5 or 6 PPVs have been leading towards.

Yeah wbss is quality mate. I m not sure who,s funding it but they must be losing loads of money on it with the prize money their handing out. The problem is not enough people want to fund it and you can hardly blame them tbh.

Even looking at boxing...hearn and franks using our money to fund it....ifl are by most accounts using drug money and not many others are investing. Do people want it funded by drug money if what their saying is true about ifl.

Other than that no ones really funding it anymore. Its a hard game to make money at.

Agree about ufc with what i know anyway...they,ve been able to build it from the ground up...with one guy running the show. Boxings more fragmented probably another discussion tbh.

Whyte probably wont land a glove on fury but what do you want him to do....just retire cause he cant beat the single best fighter in the world at heavyweight. He needs to go away and do exactly what hes done. Go away and fight the other guys in the top ten. He might not lay a glove on fury....but he,ll be better prepared for having these fights.

As i said no one wants to fund whyte v povetkin or whyte v rivas or the other guys. What happens is these fights dont get made and what the boxing fan then sees is whyte v cheap guys probably outside the top 50 again and again....just waiting on fury or joshua. Just look at frank bruno,s career. Or even the wbo runs people laugh at under warren. Frank got them cause they we,re cheap opponents most of the time. Otherwise he,d probably start losing money on the shows. Thats the reality of it. And thats when they we,re investing in boxing.
