Do Older Boxers get more respect than they truly deserve in all time rankings?

    All true

But at the end of the day, they DO get the respect they deserve when it comes to all-time rankings. I would say too much, if you are actually talking about who's the better fighter, not the tougher

You only have to look at peoples lists on here

They do and they don't. Depends on what you mean....I tend to think they can be somewhat overrated. But their accomplishments are impressive, and you rate them against their time. However, I think that seems to only apply to them, and thats not fair. We rate Old Timers against their time, and we rate newer fighters against them, though the sport is entirely different.

We are talking fantasy here, young guys going back in time, old guys playing now. The only way I can compare old and new with any integrety is to even the field. If a Vince Carter goes back and plays in the 50's, he does so with the knowlege, technology and health/fitness program of that era. So Vince would be a little shorter and less explosive, and more improtantly in baskeball, he would have been influenced by the great players from that era (Elgin Baylor) not Dr. J, Nique, and MJ. Similarly, if Bob Cousy played now, he would pretty much be Steve Nash in size and skills.

Interesting information I read several years back. Kareem said that the best player he ever had as a teammate was not Magic, but some old genereation guy winding down his career named Oscar Robertson.

Greatness really does transcend eras and evolutionarily, boxing has not moved nearly as quickly in the last 60 years or so as basketball and most other sports.

What KG028 said. It's not about older boxers being so great that they would outclass a lot of the younger fighters today. It's about how great of a boxer they were during their time. And that's why guy's like Gene Fuller, Bobo Olson, Bob Foster, Carmen Basilio are in the hall of fame. :D
