Do older guys really have that much of an advantage?

my trainer says that a 16 year old should not be fighting guys over the age of 18 due to the disparity in strength..yet when you're 17 (at least here) you can fight someone 25.

    i don't get it..that's only a year difference..:huh

Without any expert opinion or scientific studies to back me up, I'd say that generally there'd be a strength advantage (except for when you start getting too old, and decline), however it would depend on the individual. People mature at different rates, not to mention have different backgrounds and training experience, I'm sure there are plenty of 16 year olds stronger than most older guys.

Depends how much older and how developed you are. For me, every year made a difference as my strength was developing quite quickly. My first fight as a senior I was 18, and I fought a guy who was 26. WHen you're a heavyweight that makes a huge difference, and the difference in strength and power between him and my junior opponents was significant. It took my a while to get used to it, and I only found my strength properly at around 20.

im 16 i had a sparring match with a 26 year old. I wanted it to see if i could handle him. HE got a lot of good shots on me as did i. He wouldve have definetly won but i found it intresting and it was a learning curve. Dont know how thats relevant though lol

Yes, at 16 your body is not yet fully developed.

I'm about the same weight now as I was when I was 16 and my build and strength have completly changed in the last four years, even though my training hasn't changed significantly throughout the years.

In Soviet Russia boxers literally fought for their dinner. You lose, no food. Which might explain why Kolya is so skinny.

Nah, that can't be true. If it was, Kolya would have died of starvation long ago.
