Simply beause he KO'd Charles and Charles could only decision him? They were 2-2, but it seems, some view KO's and more definative and clear.

Depends on how you view the 4th fight really.

If it's to be viewed as a jersey victory than joe's won the last two whilst knocking charles out so then i'd say jersey won the series.

However if charles is seen as winning the 4th than you'd have to say charles won the series.

No, because Charles won the first two fights quite clearly.

Walcott was lucky to be given a 3rd chance.

He had the most decisive victory of the series, thats for sure.

    Knocked Ezzard the hell out.

The 4th fight is controversial, I've heard.

Walcott and Charles were pretty evenly matched - on the order of Sharkey and Schmeling a generation earlier. While Charles, in my opinion, was a shade better overall, Jersey Joe gets points for his two victories as an old fighter over what should have been a prime Charles AFTER losing twice to him. He followed this with probably his best fight ever against Marciano. The spectacular KO of Charles and his near-victory over Marciano stand out in boxing history. JJ appeared in eight heavyweight championship fights and was the underdog in all of them. After the heartbreaking decision against him in the first Louis fight, he was a sentimental crowd favorite, finally winning the title on his fifth try. I've read that he was handily winning that fight when he KO'd Ezzard. His popularity may have helped him carry the day in the fourth Charles fight, which I understand to have been close. Ezzard Charles did come back to give Marciano two memorable challenges. Marciano said that the first Charles fight was tougher than his first Walcott fight.

The 2nd fight was far from a "clear" victory, watch the fight. Walcott had Charles on ***** st 5 or 6 times...questionable decision.

And Charles sat Walcott on his arse with a left hook in the same fight, what's your point?

I dont think either really showed supremacy in the series as a whole, but if that beaut of a KO didnt happen then Charles would most likely be called the superior of the two. A very close series nonetheless.
