People act as if the whole fight was nothing but clinching atsch How did Povetkin's face look like it just went through a meat grinder after round 12? He took a horrible beating
Give me a break please. He had a bit of bruising around the eyes , nothing more. Most inflicted by elbows. Have you a picture of his face looking like it went through a meat grinder? http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/07/article-2449020-188C5E3300000578-34_306x423.jpg
Dino, shut your trap. You talk so much trash. You are a buffoon. Povetkins eyes were nearly closed, he had horrible swelling around both of them, and a cut around one of them.
He also had a pretty good cut on the bridge of his nose. To say Povetkin had just some swelling means you seriously need to lose your virginity. Some of you guys really, really need to find another sport. You can't possibly be this stupid in the real world.
Here's Wlad illegally pushing Povetkins head down, illegally holding and hitting and then finishing it off with an elbow come forearm smash to the throat and face that wouldn't even be legal in MMA. http://i.minus.com/ipPIC0hNXkLyy.gif But in Klitschko land there was nothing wrong with what Wlad did and Povetkin was to blame for using head movement to slip Wlads jab to get inside and throw punches.
Obviously Povetkin got battered. He was knocked down multiple times and was in the ring with one of the hardest punchers on planet earth for over a half an hour. So what? Doesn't make the performance better, just because Povetkin took a beating in the process of Wlads holding and leaning. Most people realize Povetkin got beat up..... which is why many people feel had Wlad not been as negative as he was, he would have actually stopped Povetkin impressively. Honestly, I don't get this defensive mindset some are getting on here. I am a huge Wlad fan, and still am. But there is nothing to defend here. The performance was ugly, and subpar, especially given the 'significants' and magnitude of this fight. That povektin had a bruised face afterwards doesn't change that, at all.
Do you ONLY care that Wlad won? What about the fact that he could have won and probably got a KO or TKO if he'd have done less holding/hugging and more punching? Or is that a fight you enjoyed watching. To me it was a disgrace of a performance from a guy as talented as Wlad and it was a fiasco as far as a fight for the heavyweight championship of the world goes. Basically the fight gave new meaning to the terms "winning ugly"
Povetkin was already leaning forward, as he did constantly in the Huck fight, to avoid getting punched. Wlad did exactly what he should have there, and he should have done more of it. The problem is, over half the time instead of doing that, or better yet, taking a step back back into real punching range and letting go punches, he just grabs and leans forward. Then does it again. Then lunges in and grabs. That gif is totally fine for me though, against an opponent who thinks he can just lean forward so his opponent wont punch him (ala Huck fight)
Povetkin was never in the fight but Wlad did fight ridiculously cautiously again. Excessive clinching in the sport is something that needs to be dealt with and people need to stop acting like Wlad invented the tactic in his last fight. There are guys doing it throughout the weight divisions and they all need pulling up on it.
If anything, the damage done to Povetkin makes this performance less defensible than it would have been had there been no real damage inflicted. Wlad clearly affected Povetkin with the few shots he landed. Had he bothered to step his attack up in the slightest, he may well have been able to force a stoppage- without putting himself at any real risk. Utilise the jab a bit more, and clinch a bit less and at some point Povetkin either runs into something big or gets busted up to the extant that the fight is called. If Wlad does that, the conversation we have about the fight is entirely different.
Um, battered in dribs and drabs on the very rare occasion Klitschko wasn't greedily humping the challenger to ensure he could monopolize the landed blows... Very loose interpretation of "battered". Povetkin naturally as the smaller man had to walk through shots to get inside. Yes, he got marked up in the process. That is to be expected. What happened once he got there is what people take issue with. He was denied the change to capitalize on getting inside - which he sacrificed his body and, yes, in a slow and methodical way, got somewhat battered to do - by the refusal of the ref to let there be any clean infighting unmarred by tie-ups and push-downs.
:deal There is no pride to be taken in "battering" your opponent by consistently cheating up to 20 times a round for 12 rounds.
