Do people really rate Roy Jones win over Bernard Hopkins?

Malinga's win over Benn came after the McClellan fight! Benn was shot to **** by that point :--(

 

So why did he leave out some of RJJs best victories of the time.

Well if Benn was shot and Malinga was 9 years older than Benn......

Also Benn was the WBC champ when Malinga beat him. I doint believe that shot nonsense.

You misunderstand that post and Roy Jones Jr's MW-SMW run. Not cleaning up a division is maybe missing 1-2 fighters out of the top 7. That is what 'not cleaning up' means. Roy Jones Jr missed every top 7 fighter every single year of his MW-SMW reign with the exception of James Toney.
The fighters Roy fought were all ranked much lower than those he didn't. I also am not 100% sure if he could have take Nigel Benn. I really am not. Nigel was an animal and would kept coming in his prime non stop for 12 rounds, I do not know what would have happened. I am not sure about Eubank or Gerald either. It's all question marks.

His entire post seemed based around denigrating RJJ at 160-168,and he mentions all the middle of the road fighters he fought,yet leaves out the top ranked guys.

He even belittles RJJs top class win over Toney saying Toney was "weight drained"

A 5'9 guy, former 160 world champion, who apparently is incapable of making 168...

 

If i'm not mistaken, Roy never beat a lineal or unified champion in his entire career?

 

Hopkins was only knocked down legitamately once in that fight. He was never close to being KO'd. Take away the horrible ref and the fight would be a clear decision for Hopkins.

 

He was on the best streak his career, how exactly was he shot????

He was the WBC champ. He had held the WBC title for 3 years and was unbeaten in 6 years and 16 fights.....where is this proof that he was shot?

 

Personally I thought Hopkins won the Mercado fight clearly, even accounting for the two knockdown swing. It was like Wlad Vs Peter, if the fight had taken place at high altitude and Peter was Ecuadorian.

Hopkins improved in later years, but he was a quality operator around the time of the Jones and Mercado fights. Hopkins' vast superiority in the rematch with Mercado supports the view that the first fight should have an asterisk attached.

Jones' decision over Hopkins is a quality win on his resume. It isn't as significant as beating a prime Hopkins, but Hopkins didn't just become an elite fighter overnight with his win over Trinidad. If you leave aside the first Mercado fight you have a steady but hardly dramatic improvement up until his signature win.

 

Its Bailey logic understand it, Eubank wasnt shot against Calzaghe and Eubank didnt win any significant fight in years prior, Benn was on winning streak but he was shot its his logic...bashing every fighter that can be compared to his crush Joe sad Joe isnt gay Bailey would love it
