I see the parallels with Tyson. The hype, the intimidating physique, the simple life style that all seems to be focused on one thing and that's boxing. Considering he now must be a multi-millionaire with all that attention it's astounding he hasn't bought his own house or at least moved somewhere nicer but he sees those as distractions to his boxing. His words in the ring after Wlad seem to support the fact that at the moment he enjoys fighting more than anything else much like a young Tyson, it's his sole focus at this moment in time. Let's just hope it remains this way for some time and he doesn't get distracted from his main goal or there isn't some Don King like character who can get in his head and take his focus away from what he currently loves.
Yeah the product placement is so overt, but I guess if some company like Under Armour paid me a huge sum of money to wear their stuff I wouldn't say no, so it's hard to be too critical.
He definitely has a vicious side to his personality under the veneer of civility. He said it himself he likes fighting, he genuinely enjoys it.
Good point and to be honest whenever he stepped on the gas in that fight he caused major problems. You know I read a while ago re AJ that for all the haters who go on about him being exposed and even some who said Martin would beat him it's like they've never considered the fact that he could be that good,19 fights and 19 KOs would suggest he his.
Just because he likes fighting doesn't mean he's falsifying the modesty he shows. I do genuinely believe that he knows he has a lot to learn and improve on, if he didn't he wouldn't be so dedicated to training. But I also think deep down he also believes he can beat anyone as long as he's in shape and prepared properly. I think any champion has to have some arrogance in their make up, hell perhaps all fighters do, otherwise how on earth do you step into the ring. That arrogance and self belief is what allows them to put their lives on the line whenever they step into a ring.
Spot on I think he comes across as an intelligent guy, I don't think he's as squeaky clean as the media and 2 cars wants us to believe though.
The only time I enjoy him outside of the ring is when the nice guy stuff drops for a few moments. Otherwise I find him a bit boring
Tbf to joshua hes a credit to the sport. They throw it on thick with the humble stuff etc. But he,s a pretty unflawed character. No ones saying hes perfect...but for the position hes in hes doing well. I think if people are being honest...we criticise him more because he is so good. Hes never really been out of order outside the ring and after saturday he pretty much backed up everything hes been saying inside it. Sometimes its actually a backhanded compliment...when people are over critical of you. Hes dedicated himself...decent with opponents outside the ring. Entertaining and shown when the chips are down and hes not against an opponent hes got all the advantages over hes up for the fight. In a sport where most of these fighters are constantly telling us how good they are....its refreshing to see. I always had him down as a bit stupid tbh. Seems like he went down the road of the self help type stuff you see nowadays on youtube videos etc. Just felt wierd hearing it from a 27 year old. A boy thats full of knowledge but never quite lived it sort of thing. The wierd thing is if he,d have lost i d be on hear saying that. But i think sometimes you ve to give people credit and he deserves it. Saturday goes down as the nite he proved himself. All us naysayers and tbh i still am to an extent...but at the end of the day its the top level. I still think he,ll lose soon... But tbf...saturday nights set in stone...even if hes knocked out by lesser opponents. Hes done enough to show...people cant ever give him the david price treatment. That was superb from him on saturday nite. Thats from a guy that tipped klitchko to win. Questioned if joshua can keep them arms up long enough. Questioned his stamina. His boxing ability. His footwork speed going backwards. His ability to take a punch. But fairs fair. Credit where its due.
I think that's happening a bit more as time goes on. Whether intential or not he lets a few hints of his harsher side out. I don't think he been overly modest about his win against klitchko either. Recently I think the balance has been pretty good, I not really felt he been pushing the nice guy act too much, maybe he taken the phoney remarks to heart. I'd agree he can go on a bit and sound like a life coach but at least it shows he got some good work ethics, rather that than an erratic fighter u have no idea what shape he will be in.
He seems like your everyday guy, he's cool. The only time Joshua disses anyone is if they diss him, like Fury.
He did it against Breazeale at one point when he got in his face; he went all roadman on him. I have much more interest in hearing interviews with that side of him instead of the 'loyalty comes from the heart' bollocks
I find him boring outside the ring. It's always the same 'stay humble' stuff his PR crowd having been pushing from the start. He's also had, what, 4 PR agencies on the payroll to date to try and manufacturer his image. Had to turn off his post fight interview. Was acting like a motivational speaker making an Oscar acceptance speech.....
