I mean if I had a title fight coming up as a contender I wouldn't be able to sleep well the night before due to the excitement and nerves, and if you don't get a good nights sleep you can't give it your all

I was thinking the same. Do some boxers do this or does it affect their performance to take sleeping medication before a fight?

Some of them do, I'm sure. I wouldn't touch that **** however. Even if I was getting bad sleep, Haye will sleep whenever his body lets him, he sometimes sleeps during the days and trains late at night.

Much better than succumbing to pills which can effectively be counterproductive.

If you watch the JC Chavez DVD he asks his private doctor for something to help him sleep in his hotel room the night before a fight.

Manny doesn't sleep... he stays on the phone till late while his opponent is fast asleep... then he threatens his strength and conditioning coach lol and tells his guards to keep a look out for him.

very good point, however it will give you the 'hangover effect' the following day and im pretty dam sure it would effect your coordination/'numb' the senses, i would of thought it would be not advised at all, ironically something like that could be the difference between winning and losing a fight, you get knocked out if not reacting as you normally would, as the drug would still be in your system

It's an interesting question nobody ever really thinks of. I think every boxer handles it differently. Some are so disciplined they fall asleep at the same time, some get a less than stellar sleep, some take medication, some nap during the day or change their sleep schedules. Different strokes and whatnot.

Most of them leave you feeling pretty shitty the next day. They probably stick with natural sleep remedies like melatonin, 5-HTP, Valerian Root etc. Some of them calm the nerves and allow you to sleep easier.
