I loved the look on Ali's face when he was cautioned for backhanding a guy. It had been years since a ref had been brave enough with their reputation to call out a world-class fighter.

Tyson got away with tons of fouling in his prime, for years, usually without as much as a warning.
It was only when he was over-the-hill and resorted to acts that were ridiculously awful that he started getting reprimanded.

Lennox Lewis is another one. Saw him get away with some horrible fouls.

But I think referees are just aware of not upsetting the applecart of certain fighters, who become so lucrative and are perceived to be needed to keep the sport alive. That explains a peak Tyson and a peak Lewis. And Muhammad Ali.
I'm not sure about Hopkins. He gets away with blatant fouls and he's not even an exciting fighter, boxing doesn't need him at all.

Holyfield's never been as bad as people say. Sure, he butts, but he's always throwing punches and brawling when he comes in with his head. It's his style, he doesn't back off. He's dirty, but it's not like Hopkins who doesn't even attempt to punch and runs in with his head like a billy-goat.
Holyfield butts as part of his arsenal, Hopkins butts instead of fighting.

yeah a prime tyson did foul and same with lewis but they are not as bad a holyfield...

and hopkins is something else for a guy that is always crying about the man being against him...the man always seems to be helping him out....

there is nothing sneaky about his headbutts, and his holding...which is something john ruiz would be jealousy of....

he talks about being old school but old school fighters didnt spend half the fight holding or crying to the ref when the oppentent decides to get pay back
