Do Sky need to shake it up a little bit??

Ha Ha. I used to love that show. Friday night excuse to bring beers home.
I remember a very young Nicky Piper in the late 80's KOing a guy called Ellis, John I think, with the first punch of the fight. It lasted 11 seconds, only because it took him a full second to hit him.

As for Sky, they could do with shaking up the commentators now and then. Just because you are a former World Champ doesn't mean you are automatically qualified as a good commentator. Some of them are poor (a lesser man would mention Jim Watt by name - he seems to be becoming a corporate sky man more than an impartial, knowledgeable observer) . Oh, for a modern Harry or Reg! Why don't they have a fans zone thing, similar to they have with the football? You could listen to the boys getting carried away and talking bollocks ... or very good sense, there are a lot of very clued up guys out there who have a wealth of experience that they could pass on.

A weekly magazine programme would be good if it was pitched correctly. If boxing was promoted as a mainstream sport once again, the fanbase would increase - Sky's PPV's would then make more cash - more cash would then go into the sport - the sport would then benefit and I would only ask a nominal fee for this outstanding idea.

Sky's coverage of boxing stinks it absolutley stinks , and they know it , HBO , Showtime & ESPN put the channel to shame , to say they need to shake things up is an understatement its embarrasing .

Oscar De La Hoya done a 45 min interview with Sky , we get 6 mins of the ****er in 2 parts its a joke , Jim Watt needs to go , he simply needs to go he's outdated , predictable , biased & his partner Darke comentates on football FFS !!!!! , Sky is laughable the whole show is laughable and it kills me to say it but we absolutley are America's poor relative when broadcasting proffesional boxing .

The problem we have in the UK is the market , Setanta tried and failed there is just not a big enough boxing market in the UK to seperate the sport completley the way the big broadcasters in the USA do , Showtime now have MMA & Boxing and are getting good figures we cant compete with it , we are stuck with Sky forever , doomed forever , i used to like when Setanta had the HBO commentary or Showtime commentary on instead of GB commentary and have Steve Bunce tear them a new one at the end , and give accurate and non biased assesments on the fights them selves .

I think it could do with a shake up definitely.

I'd go as far as to say that my two year old nephew could run boxing better than whoever is in charge at Sky.

Don't do TV deals with promoters - purchase shows on an individual basis, submitted by tender
Ditch the ''main event must be a title fight'' policy
Introduce a ''black list'' for fighters that are consistently boring
Show undercard fights live
Give us features on fighters - let us know who they are
Have a weekly, 90 minute long magazine show discussing upcoming fights with a variety of studio guests

I know it's years ago, but they had Benn and Eubank on telly signing a contract for the first fight, then the pair of them were on in front of a large audience with Jonathan Ross.

Could you imagine Groves and DeGale (say) or Cleverly and Bellew doing something similar?

 

I dont think there's one man happy with the way things are. Its repetitive boring and extremely annoying.

Dont know about everyone else but McCroreys voice and analysis is really getting on my nerves-more so than Watt.

Dave Darts seems to be concentrating only on boxing as he has a replacement on the Premier League Darts. Does that idiot have a glass eye or what? Waste of time.

Keep Darke,Nelson...burn the rest.

(At least we're getting to see the fights mind you)

Absolutley spot on , what you have stated is what HBO do , good shout m8 .

 

I think showing the undercards live is non-starter BB. Unpredictable from a programming POV with large gaps that could cause the casual fan to switch off.

 

He really is a chod. His commentating mentor would be spinning in his grave if he could hear how much dross he talks.

If you cut him in half, you could read the words " This is great stuff from <insert Sky's preferred boxers name>" - as he uses his face as a punch absorber.

His commentaries tend to just be a distraction from what is actually happening.

 

Yeah they'd have to be careful - was it the DLH/Pacquiao show that had two really long gaps?

There's certainly scope for improvement from the way things currently are though.

Oh, I can't believe I missed off my two main beefs with Sky....

1. It's past watershed - if Dave Coldwell wants to tell Tony Dodson that ''he's doing **** all'' nobody should be offended, and after all, you are watching two grown men beating each other up!

2. Adam Smith. Just get another job, please.....

 

The language is a pet peeve of mine, its 11pm and the commentator apologies EVERY single time someone swears. Wouldn't one blanket apology the first time it occurs be enough??

Yip,a little apology at the start of the broadcast. Thats if we get to see the corner work. What about the adverts on PPV's???!!!

 

I heard about 20mins of the liverpool game last night on 5live. there was a co-commentator who sounded just like jim watt. anyone know who it was? he talked a load of pish and got over-excited like jim as well

 

Thats called "having your cake and eating it". Sky get the PPV money AND the advertising revenue.:yep
