Do Sky need to shake it up a little bit??

Seriously though, I'm going to keep things fairly realistic. As much as I'd like Ringside to come back, I can't see it-so I'd incorporate bits of that in the broadcaster, similar to how ESPN do with Friday Night Fights.

So 3 hour FFN's. First hour, mix of undercard action and general boxing talk and features depending how good the card is. Then for the second hour either a 10 round eliminator or lesser title fight, followed by the main event around 11.

Lots of features and interviews in the first hour of the programme. If a young prospect is fighting a 4 or 6-rounder, then a detailed interview with him before showing the fight live.

Get rid of Watt, Dave, McCrory and Piper. Have Adam Smith presenting with Nelson and Spencer Oliver then Ian Darke commentating with Richie Woodhall. Perhaps have the co-comm rotating with a few names.

I also like the gameplan feature, perhaps have Ed Robinson chatting to somebody like Oliver, or a charismatic trainer to explain how they'd go in the fight.

One live US show per month. Admittedly we've had Pac v Clottey in March, Berto v Quintana in April and Mosley v PBF in May-but I'd like to see this consistently over a year.

Basically all of beeston's ideas are spot on, blacklists, not apologising for swearing, main event doesn't have to be a title fight etc.

That's all I can think of for now, but I've probably forgot most of it.

 

No Eurobums/Afrobums.

They make the sport look stupid, God knows what that fat knacker who Price fought last time (and the one before that) does for a living but I suggest he doesn't give it up....

 

I think it would be great if they could do a three hour show incorporating live boxing for 2-2 and a half hours and then have 30-60 mins of boxing talk on the latest going ons a bit like the ESPN format.

Have one undercard fight before the main event.

Also as discussed already no contracts just a tender every week so there is greater competition thus improving quality.

Get rid of title only main events it dilutes the quality of the British Title because some underserving contenders get shots and make a bigger stand on bringing in quality international opposition it would be a good thing for British Boxing.

 

I would like them referring to where fighters rank in Britain. And make this the criteria for having fights. No point pretending that commonwealth and even European titles are the indication of quality they were in herol graham or Charlie magri's day. Other than exceptional circumstances only one main event per weight division per quarter. Would stop the bull**** of Hatton's making Small give up Comm title so a fight no one wanted to see like McDonagh-Woolcombe can be a main event (not just hatton's who do this). Put pressure on promoters to make 1 vs 2 in Britain or British number one vs Irish number one like Choi vs Pat Hyland.

 

Also as others have said. There's no way they'll do a ringside or Bunce boxing hour magazine show. They don't even produce an in-house football preview show so won't for boxing. The option would be a general boxing section of ffn or you're on sky sports with Bunce post-fight show. Both of which I'd love to see.

Some great ideas on here in the unlikely event that sky execs spend their Easter on here! Only thing I disagree with most on is the love of Spencer Oliver.

 

I enjoy Prizefighter, but I would prefer it on another night and keep the FFN. Prizefighter would fit on the Thursday Premier League Darts slot on the weeks there are no Darts

 

Sky need Bunce

 

We're not asking sky to reinvent the wheel, I will settle for baby steps so let's hope they learn not to cut to a commercial with 10 seconds left in the round or at least let us hear the corner work without the commentators talking nonsense over it...that crap drives me crazy.

 

I'd like to see Sky Interact more with fans and also interact with HBO And Showtime and The Top Writers from around the world prior to big fights and gain there thoughts ahead of the fights.

 

I would like Nicky Piper tortured before every SKY fight .. That guy and his constant bull**** have caused me so much trauma over the years .... How come that idiot hasnt been fired, hes a total ***** ..

 

They do. The worst thing about the countdown shows is that every episode is the same. Adam Smith does a "different" movie clip every episode showing highlights of the fighter but they all contain the same clips and all he ever says is "can [insert fighter here] pull it off?" Then the presenter asks the same thing to whoever is in the studio that day and then he will say "I think so but you know, [insert opponent here] cannot be underestimated". Same thing the next day, "Adam Smith has the lowdown" and then it cuts to a videoclip of highlights that you think you've seen a million times already, maybe even in yesterdays episode but you watch it anyway. Same question for the studio guest, same response. Darkey and Watt talk about the "buzz and atmosphere", they remind us at least 10 times in one episode that we can purchase the fight on sky box office for £14.95.

It's nothing new, this **** has been going on for a long time but why am I only saying something about it now? It's like when I wake up in the morning and know I need to **** but I stay in bed untill I can't take it anymore and have to get up. Well I think I've reached that point now.

It's a pity they're geared for reeling in casual fans of the sport and not forum geeks like ourselves.

Will be interesting to see how this fight does. My instinct is the same boring previews as spelled out here eloquently turn off casual fans and make them cynical about fights. Eg. Khan-Salita. Haye-Valuev was an exception where the freak element sold the fight itself.
