Do the fights we want happen more often than not?

I am pretty new to boxing and have realised that some fights fans want to see don't happen all that often - Mayweather vs Floyd, Vitali vs Haye (for some), and a few others. I'm sure there's more over the years that you must have wanted but for one reason or another they didn't materialise.

If they do eventually happen, it's when one of the fighters is out of their prime. Anybody agree with us or am I wrong? Do promoters really care what the fans want?

yes they happen more often than not... But whenever a big fight gets made, boxing fans usually go on bitching about the next fight that should be made.

I'm sure he shadow boxes on a regular basis :D

But your correct, if you want it, it most likely won't happen.

Promoters care about protecting their interests, fighters their records/potential paydays

It's a sad list of the ones that didn't happen, and a long list too.

some of the ones I wished happened

    Jones-Michalzcewski
    Jones-Hopkins II
    Hopkins-Calzaghe (02/03)
    Bowe-Lewis
    Tyson-Holyfield (1990)
    Morales-Marquez
    Hamed-Marquez
    Lopez-Gamboa
    Donaire-Darchynian II
    Khan-Bradley
    Trinidad-Quartey
    Trinidad-Norris
    De La Hoya-Winky
    De La Hoya-Margarito
    heaps more

    Yes. But often too late:

    Hagler vs Leonard
    ODLH vs Pac
Ali vs Frazier ( although they're the greatest trilogy in history, they were both at the peak of their skills when Ali's license was suspended from 67-70).
Hearn vs Duran ( Robertos peak was from 68 -76).

Exactly. The reality is, you RARELY see two fighters in their primes in a pick'em fight these days.
