I now have images of Mike Ashley awarding the belt. For those who only defend the British title once he gives you a **** Donnay t-shirt and some Slazenger pants
Would be great if it wasn’t for the promoters. I have lost count of the number of fighters on boxing life stories who after 2-3 losses at domestic level have been classified as an “opponent”. The phone then rings only giving them 3-4 weeks notice (if that). If they win a decision it always goes against them. Before they know it, they have 4-5 losses and at that point it’s either time to retire or just take losses in most fights against home fighters. That is why the up coming fighters are so reluctant to face each other. The promoters have an attitude problem, and retired fighters can tell them a story that backs that up. Until the boxing business changes this problem doesn’t change.
Haha, minus the kid stuff! When I'm Gary Lonsdale I play a lot of old school UK Garage and US House, I'm basically taking the Michael, People Just Do Nothing style!
Think the issue is that the board reckon Carl Johanneson was not a mandatory whereas Gary and his team said they were told that he was a mandatory. I defo would like to see Sykes awarded a belt outright.
Update: Bentley KO1ed Kieran Smith and Gavin Gwynne stopped Craif Woodruff in their rematch (both tying Dan Azeez and Dalton Smith putting themselves just one away), and Tommy Frank has just lost to Jay Harris via TKO10. Fabio Wardley @ HW needs 3 more British title victories Dan Azeez @ LHW needs 1 more Mark Heffron @ SMW needs 3 more (has one lined up against Zak Chelli next month) Denzel Bentley @ MW needs 1 more Josh Kelly @ LMW needs 3 more Dalton Smith @ SLW needs 1 more and has one lined up versus former belt holder Sam Maxwell on July 1st - this could be it!) Gavin Gwynne @ LW needs 1 more Nathaniel Collins @ FW needs 3 more (has one lined up versus Raza Hamza next month) Sean McGoldrick @ BW needs 3 more Nice to see the British champs mostly keeping a busy schedule!
Great to see this thread take off and especially the ‘Lonsdale belt tracker’ @IntentionalButt is doing. Appreciate everyone’s contributions to the discussion. I just always thought this was a neat thing to add value to the national belts by having a goal and tier to reach after winning it for a fighter to sort of put a gold star by his name to be remembered as a successful and fighting champion of Great Britain.
I do too. If I had one wish it would be to get Sykes one awarded. He's had a lot of challenges and is still smiling and positive.
