Anyone watch Magomed Abdusalamov fight on with a shattered face and brain injury? Did he not display enough (too much) "guts"?

Seamus, I don't think the general feeling is that everyone has "no guts", but there are plenty of examples of exceptions, several of which have been talked about in this thread.

The problem is I think that too many of these shortcut fighters are getting popular and too much airtime. They shouldn't have got as far as they have, and that says something about the overall level of the field they're competing against.

I missed that fight and was thinking of downloading it on youtube, but then given the horrible outcome, I decided not to.

Perhaps another way of putting is: are the fighters today more pampered?

Obviously they are. When you only have to fight 4 times a year, less than that if you're a big name, and compare that to guys that fought 4 times a month...

Or, are the more professionally prepared and offer a more competitive product? Big time fighters today are not allowed to fight a few days before a major match, shooting their wad in some podunk town for a few dollars before their main event. Fighters today don't have 100 fights of wear and tear on their bodies, fighting half blind, with improperly healed cuts or broken bones. Fighters today have months to review video footage of their opponents, dissecting tendencies and weaknesses. Fighters today have nutritional and conditioning information based on science not superstition. If this is pampered, yes, they are pampered. I prefer to call it professional.

Yeah, can't say I disagree with that either.

For me it's just a case that we are all more pampered and as a result not as tough mentally and physically as people in general in times gone bye . Also there are less boxers than in previous era's I would think . But I don't like to question any boxers bravery so I will look at it as a modern race we are all not as tough as our ancestors

I have a feeling, deep, deep within my guts, that Bogaevus will initiate a major paradigm shift with regard to all of this. And sooner, rather than later. I've just eaten chili. I must go now. I cannot discuss this further.

4 times a year!?..How about once every 12 to 16 months ( especially the HW division )...These guys are pampered to the point where even the fighters themselves have to share some of the blame as to why the HW division is the way it is.
