How on earth can Ward be ranked #4 P4P ?? Whats he done in the past 5 years? fought 4 Journeymen not one legitimately ranked fighter. I still have a hard time believing he will show up for this fight, I fear another "inflamed knee" or ingrowing toenail
Kovalev EARNED his ranking Ward got his on what happened 5 years ago
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAR KRUSHER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ranking Ward #1 isn't too much of a stretch if he beats Kov. I guess you can look at past achievements, he beats Kovalev and moved up to do it, then I wouldn't argue his P4P status.

From the time i started watching boxing and reading Ring magazine and KO Monthly (mid 80's), P4P was always more in tuned with recent activity.

Sure, but how recent? What's the cut off? One year? Two? Dawson was 4 years ago. Do we count three? That's how long Rigo's victory over Donaire was. Ward's fought twice since then, even though his victims were nothing stellar. Just how good do the victims need to be? How much activity should a fighter have to maintain a p4p status? Can he punch that card just once a year to stay good?

I think you can look kind of sideways at most of the guys ranked p4p's records if you limit the discussion to only the last two or three years.
No, that's not a good list. Golovkin has the skills but hasn't done enough to deserve being number 3. Neither has Kovalev to be number 2. Crawford's too high. Lomachenko too high, hasn't done enough. Canelo? What's he doing there? Based on beating Cotto and getting his ass kicked by Mayweather? Lara has more claim to that spot than Canelo. I can't sign off on any of this. Ring had the ratings alright like a month or two ago last time I checked. But this... The problem with Ring is that they move guys up not on their actual fights but in anticipation of future fights. Every time a guy had a big fight lined up they'd move him right up the list. They put Guerrero in the top ten when Floyd was fighting him. ****ing Guerrero! At the same time they had Broner at 6, above Pacquiao, because he'd just beaten Ponce De Leon? No, no. Can't be trusted.

The list should look something like:
    1.Gonzalez
    2.Ward
    3.Rigondeaux
    4.Estrada
    5.Pacquiao
    6.Kovalev
    7.Crawford
    8.Golovkin
    9.Lomachenko
    10.Inoue
    11.Lara
    12.Klitschko
    13.Alvarez
    14.Usyk
    15.Bradley
    16.Ioka
    17.Frampton
    18.Yamanaka

I'd say so. Hopefully they make it a smooth affair and both make it home in the same condition they arrived. Lomachencko and Rigo are still amazingly talented though.

I keep Pacquiao in there too, cause I think he's still got something left. He looked good recently against Bradley at the very least.

I rank Ward for the same reason I rank Golovkin and Lomachenko. They haven't beaten anybody great in the pros yet, but the way they play with their opponents like a cat with a mouse, doing whatever they want with style; it's a beautiful thing. Part of why I rank them so high is because they have a proven track record in the amateurs too. I tend to look at a fighter's whole career when I make an assessment of them.

Although, if that were all I looked for then Donaire would still be near the top. He's just fallen off and hasn't looked good against anybody for a while; so even with that stellar record I just can't put him near the top in good conscience. Same goes for Danny Garcia. We all know he lost to Herrera, and he didn't look good against a washed up pug like Guerrero. Record or no, he's not p4p material.

Honestly, I'd say Ward is more consistent than Kovalev, as Kovalev can get sloppy at times, but if Kovalev can show up and beat Ward, Kovalev can show up and beat anybody. Ward is that good.

With that said, even though I think Loma and Rigo have a cleaner style than Kovalev, Kovalev will have proven that he can show up for the best of the best.

I'm expecting him to time Kovalev and make him look silly. He's just so smooth and technical. Of course, I could be wrong.

Recent is recent. That needs no explanation. Anyway, this is why poster P4P discussions are generally garbage. I mean no offence to you with that remark BTW.
