I can see this as a potential problem in the future. We already see a lot of inhouse fights on the world stage. With Matchroom, Fwank and Maloney at each other's throats and the prominence of boxnation this could become a serious problem. Eddie Hearn has already banned his fighters from appearing on BN and we've seen occasions where the fighters frm matchroom even refuse to speak of events on BN. Fwank has enough fighters and his own tv channel now, potentially he can milk his fighters by getting them on Boxnation against inhouse guys without having to split his purse against rival guys. Hearn on the other hand could boycott BN altogether meaning less fights between Matchroom guys and Fwank fighters. Sky vs Boxnation. Hearn vs Fwank. We could face a prospect of top brits only fighting each other when they get to world stage and effectively have no choice but to fight each other. I really enjoy domestic scraps. I hope this doesn't come to an end. We could effectively have Matchroom and Fwank turning into a domestic version of Top Rank vs GBP. Thoughts?
Ironically I think that the decision by Sky to reduce it's boxing output by 50% and work primarily with just the one promoter may actually improve things. It may drive other promoters to work with Boxnation, which would mean more domestic match-ups could take place; or it may mean that more boxing finds it's way back on to terrestrial television. The thing with this is that terrestrial television concentrates purely on ratings (this isn't always a primary concern for Sky), so there may be more pressure to deliver the fights that the public want. In the end what I can see potentially happening is that Matchrooms stable may be out on their own a bit with Sky, with many of the other promoters working together on Boxnation/Europsport/terrestrial.
Fury won't fight off channel 5, the Sky fighters won't fight off Sky, and Boxnation fighters won't fight off Boxnation. The unattached promoters will work with whoever they get the best deal off. The only way around that will be purse bids.
If Hatton goes to Channel 5 then TV shouldn't be an issue for his fights against Henessey fighters- could work quite well.
I guess it's really down to the fighters. If they want to risk all / take a pay cut, and force through a move to fight domestic rivals on another promoters show, if they pushed hard enough they could probably make it happen. But if you're looking after number 1 as you should be, for all the risk it's probably not worth it (probably ruin their relationship with their promoter also). Sad but true. The promoters generally these days can manoeuvre their fighters into European and World title tilts without the need to clean up domestically - less risk and more financial reward in the long term. But less samurai honour.
