HBO IS boxing these days.. make no mistake... which is why im surprised HBO didnt get involved in the Floyd, Pac issue... They could have said make this fight or get off our network...
Well, if you could convince NBC to stop losing over $200 million for every Olympics they stupidly buy into, and redirect just a tenth of those dollars to boxing for four years, your could have one network with a hell of of a lot solid fights. Damn I miss when Fox had fights on Saturday. At least they had Bernard Hopkins defending his middleweight title and every now again Tyson would show up to fight a bum. I won't really go into that celebrity boxing BS, even though Vanilla Ice getting ass beat by Willis from Different Strokes was nice.
Agreed a world without HBO right now is a world I dont wanna live in. My mother is always telling me I should drop HBO and Showtime from my bill to save the 30 bucks. Everytime im like hell no never happening :yep
HBO - about $12 bucks a month PPV fight cards- $30 to $55 . not sure where you are getting the "paying so much" from :huh
I like HBO, but I hate the fact that it has made boxing into an elitist sport that the average blue collar sports fan simply cannot follow, as they cant pay for the premium cable package
:good The fact that everything is HBO/PPV has probably hurt the overall popularity. But is it a cause/effect relationship? Boxing got weeded out from major networks so HBO took over. Or did HBO take the claim and by doing so hurt boxing? Remember when SRL vs Hagler was talked about on CNN? Ray has won! Everyone was so happy about it on CNN.
Of course we need HBO. Without HBO all we would have is ESPN FNF from January to July and Showtime would show 3 or 4 championship bout and a few more ShoBox's fights.
