When you look at how many fighters move successfully up in weight and KTFO guys that were supposedly bigger it makes you wonder doesn't it? You had izzy vasquez move up and carry his power and show that he could take a bigger man's punch, the most obvious recent example is pacquiao completly destoying Hatton but there is countless examples throughout boxing. Maybe Haye has a better chance against Wlad than we all think and maybe we need less weight classes.
The reason Hatton got knocked out is because he throws wide Hayemakers, keeps his hands down, and has a shaky chin. Haye doesn't have those problems, he is more like Evander Holyfield than Hatton.
People on this site do. For instance, show me some video evidence of Wlad bending at the waist, and I'd liable to give you $5. Mother ****ers today don't have skill and mother ****ers don't know what skill is. Archie Moore was 175 fightin 210 lb guys and winning. That's skill. Mother ****ers today don't have skill. Haye does however and he will knock Wlad out.
Sorry, I kept trying to post something useful, but, each time, I couldn't get past typing "It's all in the way you use it."
When I saw that Floyds reach is 72" compared to only 67" for Marquez, I got concerned. But reach or no reach, I still think JMM is gonna shock the world!
Cotto seems to have a much better chin at 147 than he did at 140. Home boy got buzzed by Paulie, Torres, etc at 140. Never really seen him hurt at 147. That is why I think Pac murders Cotto @ 140.
Does size matter? Sometimes.. Not for Pacquiao though.. I think arm reach would be a bigger advantage than size..
Ultimately, skills pay the bills. People within a weight division of one another, especially at lower weights where it can be less than a five pound difference, is not a big deal at all typically.
Yeah, all else being equal, bigger guy should win. Plenty of examples of smaller guys kicking the **** out of bigger guys, but if they had the same exact skill level, the bigger guy would win. Skill is the most important thing, but size starts mattering more and more the bigger the size difference is.
Fighters that successfully pull off wins across multiple weight classes will always be the exception, not the rule. For me, it just reinforces how special fighters like Manny and Izzy are. I'm not looking for a whole slew of smaller fighters to start doing the same thing. Although it sounds like Vic is just inches away from buying stock in GNC and making a run at 147...
i think people put a bit too much emphasis on a few lbs, but if theres a significant weight advantage, there will be a big difference. like moving from 140 to 147 isnt that big a deal, but moving from 140 to 160 or 168 would be.
