Do we read too much into Furys magical night against Wlad?

It was a magical night, it was a technically awful fight but Tyson Fury had the brains and the tools to do what was needed to get the job done over a seemingly dominant force. I feel Wlads style and mentality was there to be exposed for years but the right kind of fighters wernt around to do it. He wasnt facing good big men. The big men were slow and slobbish and unfit or he was facing decent shorter fighters who just were just held at distance by a bigger man with a fantastic jab and as soon as they got in close they were smothered and leaned on.

Tyson Fury knew this, he knew Wlad had that safety 1st aproach and Tyson is a good big man. Good enough and smart enough. He has a big reach himself and is even bigger than Klitchko. Wlad knew there was a danger his jab and grab tecnique wouldnt work so well against somebody that big who could also move and after they had got through all the pressers and Fury had kicked off at all Wlads subtle little tricks like the gloves and the spongey ring. It all got to him and worried.

In the fight all Fury had to do was keep being and acting all unorthadox and spontanious and anytime Wlad was about to do something he would twitch his head and jerk his body and Wlad would step off and reset, Safety 1st, Fury just did a little bit more and stopped Wlad by doing what he was doing and he was picking up the rounds. Before Wlad knew it it was too late, gave it a go in the 12th but too late.

It was a fantastic thing for Fury. I gave him full credit for what he did in the fight and the build up and he fully deserved the victory. But what he did there was a one off. Wlad is still to this day kicking himself over that spineless looking performance, he was ashamed of himself. I see why he so desperately wanted that rematch. He wanted to right his wrongs. Thats also why we saw a much more energetic and agressive Wlad against anthony Joshua, he wasnt going to go out like he did against Fury again.

But that was definatly a case of styles make fights, mentalitys make fights. None of what he did against Wladimir, as smart as it was, will really work against anybody else. Other fighters bring different challenges, if hed rematched Wlad it would of brought all new challenges. What he did against Wlad was pretty much a master plan. But can he create a master plan for a Wilder or a Joshua?

You may say yeah why not, ive even just admitted hes already done it before. But again, styles make fights, Weve never seen brilliance from him before have we? Hes moves damn well for a such a big man i give him that, hes got some skills for sure i give him that too, but are there any other fights where any of us were really WOW'ed? Any other fights where we thought "Hell weve got a real star here"? I just cant think of any and to be honest the reason hardly anybody gave him a chance against Wlad is because none of us had seen anything from him before to say he could.

Is he a crazy gifted genius? Or was that night in Germany just one of those nights where all the planets alligned for him?

I won't rain on your "magical" night because I suspect that you are probably a rabid UK nationalist and I like that. Glad you enjoyed it.

However, (and I had been saying this a good while prior to the fight) Wlad was never that good. The first decent guy big enough to not get leaned on or any elite smaller guy was gonna beat him. Before Manny taught him to lay on his opponent's backs, he was getting ktfo by Lamont Brewster ferchrissakes!

So yes. But enjoy anyway.

Good post. Ive never been a fan of Fury. I find him entertaining but always thought he was overrated asf! If always called him a sided show and he has been exactly that especially since the Wlad fight. Outside of fighting Wlad and Chisora his resume is filled with taxi drivers and pub brawlers. Yet people want to go on and on about Deontay wilders resume which i find hilarious. I think DW is going to knock him out and it could end Furys career and possibly catapult DW to the next level in his career in terms of bankability.

Wlad had no idea what to do because Fury was always up to something and Wlad had to react.
You are acting as if Wlad had a stationary opponent in front of him and was reluctant to let his hands go.

Wlad couldn't let his hands go against Jennings too, Vitali got mad at him in the corner.
Fury was doing stuff, barely more than Wlad and that's why he got the decision.
