Do wins over Haye and Povektin in '09 get Wlad into the IBHOF?

I think Buchanan deserves to be in there myself.But the whole thing is meaningless now its been demeaned to such an extent ,guys like Mancini, Gatti ,and Ward will probably make it, all gutsy fighters but popular more than talented. 10 years time Greg Haugen and Pazienza will be in.

 

Hey now, I did not make much of a deal out of Haye. IMO Povetkin and Gomez are far more proven than David Haye is at heavyweight.

While Povetkin did beat some older guys, he also beat some younger guys too. IMO, Povtkin has more talent that either Chagaev or Ibragimov.

I don't think the divison is that bad right now. What needs to be done is for the right matches to be made. Wlad will fight anyone. Up first is Haye, then Povetkin.

 

I wasn't referring to you when I mentioned Haye.Povetkin beat some older guys, and some younger guys,and thats what they are ,just guys .Povetkin has beaten no one.so is NOT proven.Gomez ? A win and a draw over a 42 year old McCall .Virchis beat no one .The Klits are the best around and that isn't saying much because there is no one around.Thats why recycled Cruisers like Gomez who is in his late 30's and ancient relics like Holyfield are still about,throw in Maskeav,and Rahman and you have a pot full of mediocrity.If Haye can ko Wlad he would be a shot in the arm for the division,and bring some interest back to it.All these Easten European Heavies have their records inflated with second rate trial horses,.Let Vitali beat the Giant ,Wlad beat the rest and they might gain some respect.I wouldn't pay anything to watch anyof them ,but I might watch Haye v Wlad

 

Gomez has beaten no one? No so. Gomez easily defeated Virchis who was in the top ten. Virchis only lost one fight prior to that, and it was a very close one to Chagaev. Also, Gomez defeated McCall, he did not draw vs McCall. Prior to that, Gomez was the best crusier around.

It seems as long as the Kltis win, you'll say there's no one for them to fight. I think we need to see how Haye, Povetkin, and Gomez do before you make that conclusion.

 

Gomez biggest win is over a 42 year old McCall.Their previous fight ,which I erroneosly called a draw was a no contest.Gomez is 37 an ex cruiser, the fact that he is being considered for a title fight speaks volumes for the depth of quality in the Heavyweight Division.Ranked above Gomez is Oleg Maskaev ,nearly 40 years old! Virchis beat NO ONE ,and faded as soon as he was beaten,all these unbeaten records mean NOTHING IF YOU ARENT BEATING ANYONE! Chagaev? He beat who? Any one with a pulse?

 

I think you going over board here. Gomez was a top cruiser weight champ with ten successful world title defenses. As a heavyweight, Gomez has beaten beaten Virchis, McCall, Sam, and Deifagabon. His record stands at 44-1. Gomez is not a bum. He is a ranked guy, and worthy of title shot. More worthy than the Rahman's, Thompson's, Austin's, and other dubious mandatories that boxing fans are forced fed with. Gomez is better than OK mandatories such as Brock if you ask me too.

Chagaev, has beaten Virchis, Ruiz, Valuev, and Skelton. These four have either held world champion belts, or fought for an alphabet title. Virchis, Valuev, and Ruiz are/were top ten ranked fighters. Chagaev remains undefeated at 25-0-1, with the draw being very dubious as the guy he was fighting was hurt and on his way out, only to be saved by an accidental clash of heads. I think Chagaev is a top 100 all time heavyweight if he retired right now, though his career is still in flux.

Gomez was an average champ who defended against trial horses for the most part. He is 37 and plainly past it.The Heavyweight division is as poor as it has ever been in my lifetime,and no tales of unbeaten and untested fighters victories over 3rd raters will chnge my opinion on that
