Do you agree with Ali's assesment of why he'd have beaten Rocky Marciano?

No. Plenty of Marciano's opponent's said and tried similar things, but once in the ring things turned out differently.

Here is piece with Marciano giving his take on why he would beat Ali.

Rocky Marciano is a bit too old to take on Cassius Clay in the ring-but he's taking verbal jabs at the current heavyweight king these days.

"I never thought I'd see the day when a heavyweight champion of the world would belittle the old time fighters"

Marciano said at a boxing luncheon.

"I never thought I'd see the day when a heavyweight champion would challenge the great Joe Louis, who is 25 years his senior and who is 15 years out of boxing. I never thought I'd see the day when a heavyweight champion would not praise his trainer and the people around him"

Marciano, who's here as a guest referee at the local Shriners' International Diamond Belt Centennial Amateur Boxing Championships Friday and Saturday, didn't mention Clay by name but it was obvious who he meant.

"I hope there is one person here who will turn boxing back into a sport we can be proud of," he added.

The Rock said he was proud to have belonged to the "golden era of boxing" from 1948 to 1956 when boxing was at its peak.

Marciano even said he had a formula for beating Clay.

"Against Clay I'd stay away from the middle of the ring, crowd him, rough him inside, punch short, hit him on the arms and shoulders when there weren't any openings" Marciano said.

"I'd never deviate from my original style. I didn't have the reach or the beautiful jabs and uppercuts. I used what I had most-strength, endurance, punching power."

"Clay? I'd knock him out in three rounds and do away with the embarrassment. I'd just put him away behind me."

"The last few months I have gotten so tired of being asked about how I'd feel going against Clay-I'm sick of it. I know how I'd feel. I'd hate him."

"How about the forearm or the elbow?

"That's the name of the game-I'd just like to see him get hit one good shot."

Marciano was undefeated in 49 heavyweight bouts and he won 43 of them by knockouts-and 39 of those on or near the ropes.

Marciano was dubbed "the last savage" by Sports Magazine a title he is professionally very proud of.

"I don't like to be called a killer in public. People don't understand. But when someone in the business says it-I'm proud. And I'm proud of my era (late 1940's to mid 1950's) and its athletes."

"We were a different breed. Now a champion can say he doesn't want to get hurt-does not like blood. Until recently, I'd always been proud of the tough, rugged American fighters who were taught to slug. That's why 95 percent of the champions have been Americans."

Here is a piece with both Marciano and Ali giving their opinions of each-other shortly after filming the Super Fight.

Marciano conceded that Clay was a very difficult man to corner, but felt that during his championship days he could have caught Clay and put him away.

Clay, of course, expressed great confidence that he'd have been able to stay away from Rocky and cut him up. Rocky cut easily. He said that the only chance Rocky or any other fighter had of beating him was to kayo him.

Clay later praised Rocky's punching ability by conceding that even in the sparring sessions, the blows that he caught on the arms hurt for days.

1948-1955 was possibly the weakest heavyweight era of the 20th century.
Too late for Louis, Bivins, David, Lee Q Murray and Elmer Ray.
Too early for Liston, Patterson and Ali.

I agree with Ali. Though the computers had the match a little different. The computers probably where programmed by Marciano fans.
I personally don't believe Marciano would've stood much of a chance against Ali prime vs prime.
