Do you agree with Bert Sugar saying Mike Tyson career wasnt good enough to make the top 100 p4p ATG?

It's been years ago since I've heard this, but I remember watching a tv show where they replayed the 1st Tyson-Holyfield fight and right after Tyson got TKO'd, the fight immediately cut to Bert Sugar and a few other hosts. One of the hosts asked Bert if he had Tyson on his top 25 p4p atg list and Bert said not only was Tyson not on his top 25 p4p atg list, but he wasn't even on his top 100 p4p atg list. The person next to him asked him why he's not on his list as he was the youngest heavyweight champion in history at only 20 years. Bert shook his head and replied saying plenty of fighters were better than him. The host then said what about the Spinks fight as Bert had Spinks high on his p4p atg list and Bert just continued to shake his head telling him "no no no, we're not even about to get into the Spinks fight".

That's a pretty tough list to crack, most people have Mike near the bottom half of the 10 best heavyweights so it would depend how many heavyweights you wanted to include. The lower weight classes are a lot deeper.

I'd say if we are looking at the totality of Tyson's career he is not top 100 pound for pound. He's barely top 10 just for heavyweights and there are too many great fighters at the lower weight classes.

If we were just counting his prime (which we are not) he may well be top 20 or even top 10 pound for pound.

I'd say he doesn't crack the top 50 ATG p4p list, top 100..............he belongs

Sugar, RIP, but some of his views were downright silly, and this is one of them.
Tyson was a force of nature in his prime; all his fights were huge events. He was considered
by EVERYONE to be the baddest man on the planet in his prime.

So yes, top 100 ATG EASILY.

I am not good at lists & rankings, but I can see both sides of the argument.

It's kind of hard to imagine that the most popular/well known boxer of all time (bar Ali, I guess), wouldn't be in top 100 of all time. If we are talking ability/record, then Mike may not be there. If fame counts, then that's different story. Also if things like youngest champ ever or number of 1st round KO's or percentage of rounds won and stuff like that count, then Tyson could be in there.

Tyson being the youngest heavyweight champ is enough to put him in the top 100 imo.

Pre-prison Tyson, easy. Post-prison Tyson, probably not.

Yeah plus it would be hard to fill out 100 Fighters in general, you would have to think to include him somewhere in there.

Tyson most certainly does make the top 100. I feel like people on here seem to degenerate Mike for some reason i find hard to fathom

Overrated but there still hasn't been anyone with his combined natural abilities and honed skills before or since. He had the potential to be in the HW GOAT discussion, but his lifestyle didn't allow it. You can say excuses but that's how I see it.

If he had beaten Lennox back then, there's no doubt in my mind he is top 3.

    As it is, he's H2H top 10.
